April Filing NOA1 Question

Hello everyone. I'm new to VJ and I need some advice. I searched and searched all the threads to see if I could find an answer to my question before posting here. Please don't flame me if this is an obvious question!

I filed our 129F petition with the NSC (which I discovered after reading here will be forwarded to the CSC). It was received on April 18 at the NSC and I have not been mailed the NOA1 yet. In addition, my check has not been cashed. My question is this: Is there a way the NSC/CSC gives notice of the NOA1 through email? After reading several posts, it appears that some people who filed during the same time as me to the NSC got a very quick response and have received their NOA1 hard copy already. It also seems like some members knew their NOA1 was mailed before they received the hard copy in the mail. How is that? Is there a number to call or website to check that I don't know about? I'm probably totally confused, so I need some veterans here to help!

I realize this is just the start of the lengthy process, but reading other people's speedy timelines has me a bit worried already!

First, welcome to VJ community! As for your question, no, you won't be getting a notice (NOA1) through email, but snail mail. You have to be more patient because sometimes, it takes 2 weeks or so for it to arrive. It seems like lately, even the NOA1 takes quite some time to receive it. Keep on checking with your bank if the check you issued is cashed. I think calling them at this time won't be of any help... Give it another week and I'm sure, it will be in your mailbox.

Good luck! You have to practice patience because you are in for a long and frustrating waiting game. Save your worries waiting for NOA2... that's one of the toughest stages, I think.

I know that you can sign up for email notifications through the USCIS website, but you'll need your case number for that, which is given to you on your snail-mailed NOA1. I believe you can also get your case number once the check has been cashed; they print it on the back of the check, if I remember correctly.

Good luck and welcome to VJ! Hope your process goes along smoothly and quickly. :D

Congrats on beginning your journey. Don't panic yet that you don't of your NOA1. Mine took a littel longer than I had hoped. Once you get your case number, you can sign up for the e-mail notifications and see when your case is touched. As of right now, your case is within normal time limits.

Thanks for the info, everyone! Still nothing in the mail today and the check isn't cashed yet. I must be checking my internet banking at least 5 times a day just to see if its cleared yet! I'll keep my fingers crossed that it will come within the next couple days.

Haha, I am in the exact same situation! I mailed my K-1 to Nebraska April 12, 2007 and haven't received a darn thing from USCIS yet. They just cashed my check May 4, 2007.

There is SUPPOSED to be number on the back of the check that you can use to check your case status, but whatever is stamped on the back of my check does not have it. And just FYI, it's stamped received at the California center. I'm wondering if that's what's holding up our recent K-1 filings, that they are being sent straight to CA before a case is opened?

So, we're both in the same boat. Apparently this is normal for right now. It's especially frustrating to me because I know I forgot something in the package (forgot to copy both of our passports as proof we've met and copies of credit card statements showing I made purchases in Europe/he made purchases here; I only included letters from friends and a photo) so I know I have a RFE coming, it's like come already! At least acknowledge I have a case!

Good luck, apparently your check should be cashed any day now, hopefully the paperwork will follow shortly!

Because it is CSC processing your application, it will be them who deposit and cash your check. The NSC or TSC address acts only basically as a PO Box. They open the application, see that it is an I-129F, which they don't process, and forward it on to CSC, which is where all action will take place on it. (It gets a #, check is cashed, NOA1 issued and then the application is put into a nice little folder and dropped into a box and promptly forgotten about for about 3 months, or more, before someone pulls it out and looks at it.)

As for what you sent as evidence....pray that it passes, though I'm not sure as all that you've included seems to be what they call "secondary" evidence, so you may be right in thinking an RFE will be issued. Just make copies of all your evidence (passport copies, boarding passes, credit card receipts, etc.) have it ready, and should they issue an RFE, as soon as you get it, you can turn it around back to them. :)

Good Luck!

Oh yeah I know I don't have the proper evidence, I'm sure of it. I sent out my package at lunch one day and was all pleased, and started bumming around on this website for the rest of that lunch hour and to my horror was reading how what I had included wasn't sufficient...that's what you get for double checking AFTER you stick something in the blue mailboxes!!! I had literally JUST put the darn package in the mail about 15 minutes prior to reading my proof wasn't good enough.

So yeah, I've got all my real proof in an envelope ready to go for when I inevitably get my RFE!

Thank goodness for this site, that's all I've got to say. If for nothing else, the comfort of knowing your situation isn't entirely unique, so many other people have had the same concerns and fears.

Ok guys, I'm seriously about to have a nervous breakdown. STILL NOTHING! No check cashed, no letter. And I mailed the petition a month ago. I called the 1-800 customer service number just to see if we were even in the system. After finally getting transferred to the proper immigration officer, and this lady was some piece of work let me tell you, I got nowhere. This was my first "proper" introduction to the immigration process and it was pure torture. I think I want to throw up. This lady was such a nasty person; she literally hung up on me for asking too many questions! I heard the dial tone and I couldn't believe she clicked me. Then I called back and talked to a very nice man who said that we weren't in the system (Fantastic!) and that if I don't hear anything by the end of next week to call back. I also reported the rude lady's name to him and told him to to let his supervisior know about what happened to me. And I'm so sure that something will be done about her lack of human decency.

And what is so frustrating is that I know that I did everything correctly! I included a crapload of evidence. We've been together 3 years since first meeting in law school, we've lived together in Ireland for an entire year, and we've been back and forth too many times to count. So, we have plenty of evidence and I know I completed the paperwork properly. I'm so frustrated right now I can't even see straight.

And I just realized that I mailed the petition on Friday the 13th. I think I need a sedative now.

I know how you feel! I kept reading everybody's timelines and it seems like many people get their NOA1 just a couple of weeks after filing my Fiance sent our application on Aprill 18 and we haven't received anything yet! The check has not been cashed either :(

I'm more relief to know that there are other filers on the NSC that are in our same situation, at least that means our application didn't get lost or misplaced!

Please keep in touch all you guys who filed in April and haven't received anything! This week I was starting to freak out, I know we have to be patient but it's been 3 weeks already and nothing... well, at least now I know we're not alone!

Let us know when you get it! I'm sure that after you guys we'll get ours soon after!

Oh, friends-

This is sooo frustrating and we just officially started the process! ahhhh. I sent ours April 30th and keep comparing our dates with everyone else's. Some peope get a NOA1 fast and yet we all are waiting. Yesterday was my fiance's birthday so I was hoping we would get good news, no such luck.

Let's hope CA starts getting their stuff together and go fast!

Just breathe!
