I just wonder what will be the approach for old filers like me. I filed the N-400 almost 20 months  ago (the expected completion date was originally Dec 2019 and then Feb 2020. Still in my rocking chair).

For the 2018 filers, is it possible to complain about outside normal processing range when they keep pushing the time line to 36 months? Has anybody tried anything or are we passively going to wait other 1.5 years?

My guess is that they have a blanket processing time to avoid all case inquiries for the time being, until they figure out how much the processing times have been realistically pushed out due to everything that is going on. Maybe they will update their processing times pretty soon again, given so many things are changing so quickly. I doubt the actual processing times are going to be pushed off 1.5 years, and I doubt we have to wait for that long. But then again I say this after we waited for 3 years for removal of conditions 🤔 But I do feel more optimistic this time.

Just seen that Chicago field office is showing 13 - 48.5 months for N-400 on the USCIS processing times page. So Seattle has lost the crown of having the longest processing time estimate! I don’t believe the processing times are anywhere near accurate but interesting that Chicago should be so much longer than all others.

Timeline in brief:

If you are waiting for interview rescheduling, call USCIS customer number and ask if they are doing a background check on you. Background checks must be done before interview scheduling. I was scheduled an interview in March and it was cancelled by them. Now I was informed that they are doing another background check on me and they are waiting for the result. They sent it in April. It's been 2.5 months. I don't know if other people's cases are also sent for a new background check. But this could delay your case significantly. I asked them to look at the timeline of my first background check and how long it took. It took 6 months to complete. It was completed on the same day they scheduled for me first interview. So it's possible that this new background check that started in April could go on till October. It seems very arbitrary and staged of their decision to initiate a new round of background check less than one month after my interviews were cancelled due to COVID-19. I'm concerned if this whole thing is ever gonna end.

2015-03-23 AOS filed

This is ridiculous! 6 months for a background check? How do other USCIS offices manage to get people through the whole citizenship process (from filing N-400 to oath) in 3 or 4 months, as was the case in Buffalo, NY, for example, pre-COVID?

They will say that they have no control over how long this takes. But so far I have no answer on why other offices can get it done so fast. Let's be honest. The FBI is not gonna take 6 months to do a name check. So there you have the "answer." It has to do with the Seattle office. Probably because of the backlog. The delay is on them. And I also have no idea why they sent my file for yet another round of checks. It's ridiculous indeed, considering they sent it for background checks 1 month after they got the results of the previous one which took 6 months to complete.

I had my N-400 interview this morning and the officer who did my interview also conducted a one-on-one oath ceremony. I received my Naturalization certificate within 20 minutes and was on my way. Good luck.

Congratulations! Were you rescheduled after a March/April cancellation? How did it look like in terms of how many interviews are happening?

Thank you. When I arrived there were around 10 people already seated. It seemed most of them were approved and did the oath with their officers as they all came out and sat and waited for someone to return with a packet. I wasn’t a cancellation. I applied for ROC in Feb 2017 and N-400 in April 2018. My ROC was approved on June 2nd and my interview was scheduled on the 15th for today. I think everyone there today was N-400.

That’s interesting, another interview that had a i751 prior.

Any new interviews out there for someone that hasn’t had a i751?

After you get I751 Notice, how many days the card will be delivered?

It says 60 days but it is accurate? or they send in a week or two? I need to schedule a plane ticket...
