I just added my timeline too. Filed september 28, 2018, still nothing. I751 has been pending since 2017 july.

I am tired of going USCIS office and get extension for my permit.

Unless they seep up, today they are processing June 21, 2018 receipt (for N400). I have been following and the rate is 1 day every 24h update. I filed October 24, 2018 so my case should be process on May 24, 2020. There are exceptions to this rule, though. But that's the trend.

I m watching that too. I was thinking that process could be faster for merge filers, but they dont treat different...

I am afraid that it takes longer for combo filers than solo filers. They said that it should take the same amount of time but I am not sure.

I am also a "veteran" combo filer (I-751, November 2017 and N-400, October 2018).

I hope to go through the NAturalization before travel plans for the summer but I don't trust them.

I told my partner, no passport, no trips.

You are 1 month ahead of me so your paperwork should be processed around April.

It's very scary to travel abroad with the I551 stamp.

We went over Vancouver, Canada with that stamp, and despite having Nexus, still I was sent to secondary inspection. Almost stroked out.

Now I learned my lesson. That stamp is very "volatile"..it's not at all a strong proof of permanent residency. So, no US passport, no travel abroad (at least for me!) ;)

Yeah, that stamp doesnt mean anything outside of the US, and they know it. I hope we will be done around right time. I heard some people are outside of 19 months and they are still waiting..

If my timeframe hits 19.5 months and still nothing, in a blink of an eye, I will file a Writ of Mandamus.

Yeah, thats what i was talking about to other day to my partner. She asked me that if she can do anything. She wants to go lots of international trips but bcuz of my situation she doesnt. Thats really frustrating process.  I will check writ of mandamus

There must be a way that is not that expensive. But I find it very unfair. I have lived in USA for more than 17 years ( 100% legally, on different work visas and on subsequent  GC)  and paid 100% of my taxes. I find it very insulting to have to ask a federal court for help because the agency is not doing their work efficiently.

For those combo filers, my immigration lawyer confirmed that he can file a writ of mandamus only after the N-400 is beyond the normal processing time of 19.5 months. We are not eligible before that time. So we have to wait after 19.5 months. Hope our interviews happen before that time!

Hi everyone, Just for checking and survey personal purpose,  what is the percentage of having same-day Oath ceremony after the interview for those have had early interview time at 10 AM in Seattle office ?  Thanks

I have a 10am interview on Feb 10, and I have to travel internationally 5 days later. I'll let you know how it goes. I'm hoping for the same day oath so that I can apply for the passport the day after.

I remember looking at combo filing in 2018 and before, and back then it was suggested that combo filers can actually speed up the whole process due to N400 being processed faster than I 751. The landscape is very different now.

2015-03-23 AOS filed

2015-12-29 AOS approved

2017-10-03 I-751 filed

2018-10-02 N400 filed

2020-07-16 I-751 & N400 approved. Sworn in as a US citizen.

2020-07-16 Registered to vote & applied for passport

2020-07-20 Voted!

Thank you for your sincere advise.  I am also keen on getting it done and be over with the journey.  My interview is at 10:10 AM. So what are the chances of having my ceremony oath the same day ?  Is that a common practice in Seattle office ? Anyone recently got their oaths done the same day? I also heard if I got interviewed by a junior officer, I gotta wait for a senior officer to approve my application. So chances are very slim to get my oath done the same day, right ?

Hi, I just want to share my Citizenship Interview experience last year.

“I had a planned trip to Vancouver Canada dated December 13, then my interview was scheduled on December 11. It was nerve wracking of thinking about the unknown but I chose just to wait and see what happens after the interview. While I’m waiting for my interview that time, I read some options on what to expect or what to do after the interview. Anyway I passed my 9:45 am interview and had an Oath Taking the same day (1:30pm - done by 3pm). The next day on the 12th I went to the Regional passport agency in Seattle to apply for my passport which also I planned ahead I made an appoint a week before my interview. Since I’m traveling on 13th, I brought my hotel reservation which was booked long time before I even I knew about my interview.  The passport agency accept my application so as my hotel reservation copy and I got my passport the same day, I waited until 2:30pm.“

So even if you get same day Oath Taking, you cannot travel because you need your US passport.

Plan A - if you’re not scheduled same day Oath Taking just requests another date, then you can travel using your Greencard. Though some applicants that didn’t get the afternoon Oath Taking were scheduled the next day AM Oath Taking I’m not not sure what time.

NOTE: The risk of rescheduling your Oath Taking might be a long wait.

Plan B - Anticipating  that you get same day Oath Taking -

Plan ahead get an the earliest Appointment at the Regional Passport Agency for the 25th and bring your ticket and let them know your travel plans and request for the same day processing.

Well I hope this help a bit.

Good luck!
