Can a person get a work visa to work at a hotel as a housekeeper? If so what type of visa would it be?

Apparently Mar-a-Lago, Donald Trump's resort in Florida, received 70 H-2B visas for foreign workers in 2017 — ahead of the current high season.  Here's a link to an article on CNBC.

And you'd think housekeepers wont qualify for h1b. Good to be president I guess.

Those were seasonal H2 visas. Yup, the president amazingly couldn’t find anyone cheap enough, I mean local, to do the work.

unfortunately there is no permanent visa available for a job at that level, it is simply too low skilled to qualify.

Friends who own a Hotel have people working there on J Visa's, also as has been mentioned H2B.

So the trump administration is cracking down on all visas except the ones that make them more money...

Not aware that they have had any issues, I know more local businesses have been bringing in seasonal workers, very difficult to get anybody competent locally. I know personally that this is the case.

I have to assume your local businesses advertised positions properly first, not like mar-a-lago!

out of interest also housekeepers, or similar level work?

The more I find out about how people can get visas for doing jobs that essentially need no skill (I mean, I get a seasonal need for some things but also on the J visas for things like waiters etc) and how some of the seasonal visas are abused, the more amazed I am.

Well it started with one business, and with a J there is no advertising requirement, not that that would be an issue.

And then the local brewpub followed, and I think others are looking for this summer.

Basic housekeeping etc work, but I know one year she had a couple of guys who were strong on IT and they revamped her booking system, small hotel. So a bonus.

In fact, the Trump administration temporarily expanded the H-2B program. In July 2017, the Department of Homeland Security raised the cap on H-2B visas for guest workers from 66,000 to 81,000 for fiscal year 2017. (Three days later, Trump's properties asked for permission to hire 76 workers through the program.)

The policy change was surprising. Trump has criticized other guest-worker programs for supposedly taking jobs away from Americans. He has resisted calls from the tech industry to expand the H-1B visa for high-skilled workers. He hasn’t increased visas in the H-2A program for seasonal farmworkers, even though the agriculture industry has lobbied for it. He even delayed the launch of a startup visa program that Obama created to help foreign tech entrepreneurs start businesses in the United States (though a federal judge in December ruled that the administration did not have legal standing to do so).

conclusiin clear, when people come on here and ask about these type of visas, we need to tell them to apply to trump properties!!

National chain is good, they will know what they are doing, have they told her what visa they will be sponsoring her for.

Yes, it's possible to get certain work visas. Just know what you're getting into...something like an H-2 is only for one-off, seasonal, etc. temporary work. It's not something that would allow her to stay in the US the majority of the year.

You have to look into the J1 visa but I don't think she would qualify for that because I believe it's for recent graduates. My niece is actually over here working on a J1 visa in a Marriott hotel.
