thank you. Did you receive your Oath date already?  I'm out of state between March 6 and 13, know Oath can be rescheduled, but would rather not.

Yes I received the Oath letter online a day later and I received the mail three days later after my naturalization interview.

With the new process you get the naturalization certificate right there, and they give you an welcome package with it.

The package they gave me came with a passport application, you can apply online https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports.html

It seems to be very easy to follow online and if you are not in a rush a new passport should be issued within 90 days or so.

I am finishing my application this weekend

thanks for the always very helpful info! I had my ceremony today and it was quick and organized..:-) now all done! Because I will have international travel soon, I need to apply for a passport right away.. I did some research and it seems that the Post Office option is not very recommended due to they need to take your Naturalization Certificate away, many instances they lose it I read.. versus if you apply for it in person at the Travel Agency, they will only look at it and return to you at the spot. However, there is no appointment available at the Agency due to Covid.. am wondering have you done your passport application? if so, at the post office? what is your experience? Do they accept credit card payment or I need a cashier's check? Thanks!

I have never heard of them taking your certificate away, I had no issues, they just revise the documentation to ensure that is real, but nobody had to keep mine.

Where did you hear that they take the the certificate away?

Also, your best bet is to apply directly with the post office or the Detroit Passport Agency , I am not sure of their availability of appointments and turn around, but they would have the resources to verify your documentation right there and then and give your certificate back right away.

Did you mail your certificate to the passport agency? There are some stories that they lose their certificate from the mail. I’m afraid to mail mine.

What would the the fastest option to get the passport? 12 weeks seems to be quite long.

Beside agency because there are no appointments available.

mine came in about 2 months. you may try to pay the extra fee to expedite it if you have a reason for that,

And if I don’t have any reason, can I still pay more and expedite, to get it within 2 months?

Yes, there is no reason necessary to pay for regular expedite services.

After how long do we get our supporting documents back?

I received my passport with typo in name 14 days back but still waiting for my certificate of naturalization back, so I can apply for a new passport to fix the typo. Any idea after how long people are getting back their certificate of naturalization from the passport agency once they receive the passport? My the passport was expedited.

I received my certificate a week later after I received my passport book. Maybe this can help you

Losing your Naturalization Certificate

If you lose your naturalization certificate, you will need to file a form N-565 with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Instances when you would need to file a form N-565 include:

  • Your certificate has been lost, stolen, destroyed, or misprinted with an error
  • You have changed your legal name or gender
