There is only on Uscis local office in Detroit,

there are federal district courts in MI, west and east

Yes, that is what I was referring to. Oath ceremonies are not just held in Detroit, but also in other locations, depending on where you live.

FYI for those that have their ceremony scheduled soon.  I read everywhere you should be 45 min before the ceremony starts, basically because there is going to be a long line to go through security , verify your personal details with the form, get everybody seated , cell phones are not allowed as you may know so you will have to bring a camera if you want to take pictures.  Right after the ceremony there will be a stand to apply for an expedite passport right there,  so you won't have to send your certificate to get a passport, bring 2 pictures and the form filled out to save time .

Thanks for the info - I have my oath on 6/24, I've read about the long lines!

Great to hear about being able to apply for the passport there and then and not having to schedule an appointment with the passport office across the road.

Last year, they did allow tablets, but not phones which I thought was interesting.  I agree, 45 minutes early is a good thing, when my wife went through the ceremony, there were 77, so it did take some time to check in.

Applying for the passport after the ceremony depends on the time of the ceremony.  The passport office is right across the street from the Federal Courthouse, so if you have a morning ceremony, you can do it, but if an afternoon ceremony, probably not.  My wife’s ceremony started an hour late (2pm) due to the time it took to check everyone in, and the passport office closes at 3.  We went back the next day as we had travel plans.  There should be a rep from the passport office at the ceremony explaining everything, but one advantage of applying at the office itself is that they do not keep the naturalization certificate if you apply within 30 days (I think) of the ceremony.

Good Luck and Congrats!
