Hello visajoruney family,

My N400 application was received by the by the Chicago office last Tuesday. I was anticipating to get the NOA of receipt over the weekend however I did not get it. I see everyone had their NOA usually generation the next day. How long does it take to actually get the NOA?

I would expect a week to 10 days, but you may get an online notice a bit sooner.  Good luck and welcome to the group.

If you are a paper filer, I recommend that you wait for 2 weeks. In May it took me 9 calendar days to get receipt through USPS mail. But it could take upto 2 weeks (guess based on time reported by people) if the number of application is more. If you sent G-1145 form with your application, you should receive text in 5 to 10 days (it's a guess based on time reported by people).

Thanks

Does anyone knows why detroit field office only works 4 days even when they have a backlog of 10,000 N-400 applications.

I am looking at other field offices like boston, that has same number of backlog and they have 2 offices and work all 5 days.

I believe the IOs work five days, they are just not open to the public or schedule any interviews on Mondays.

Thanks Bill. In Boston, they are open to public all 5 days. So it does seems, we are at a disadvantage. Also it is so difficult to get Infopass appointments in Detroit. Looks like you can get only ones 2 weeks in future. Rarely I have seen availability of open slots within 2 week time period.

That is interesting, I suppose there is some autonomy for each office to run how they will.  Maybe Detroit feels one day with no public gives them a leg up on doing administrative work.  I believe they also only hold oath ceremonies on Mondays.  As to Infopass Appts., I thought most offices had it pretty bad, I know I had heard that people need to get on very early in the morning after the next available day comes open to get an appointment two weeks out unless someone gets lucky with a cancellation.

Detroit processing times goes up again - median time from 5 months on Aug 1 to 8.5 months now.... Good time to take a vacation and forget about this for a while!

Wow. This changed like in 2 weeks by 3.5 months. Receipt date for case inquiry April 30 2017. Omg. This is becoming  more like other backlogged field offices.

Think of it, 3 weeks back they sent interview invites to folk in first week of May 2018. Can''t understand how they process cases. In a span of 4 months, it has gone from 8 to 4 to 5 to 8.5 months.

Think of it, they were processing Nov/Dec 2017 2 months back. Which makes 8 months to process those cases (completion in Aug 2018). May be it will change back to 4 to 5 months in 2 month's time.

Yup you are right. These numbers are from 2 months back. Their processing time estimate is a joke. Who cares what happened 2 months back! You get a better idea from VJ trackers.

Oh well. Hope to see some updates from Detroit folks soon!

Probably you may not see updates on Visa Journey or any other tracker. Timelines on almost all website indicate that they have processed case until April 2018. Don't see any pending except for couple of ROC cases here and there. So don't know what's going. lol. Don't want to feel down, but I feel down because of unpredictability of timelines. Don't know what to expect. Can't plan any trip. Was going to buy tickets for couple of trips in Nov/Dec. Just don't know what to do.

Checked  couple of websites and almost all applications filed between April 2017 and May 2018 have been called for interview (or the user has not logged in for more than 6 months so probably they are done) except for very few ROC cases. So either they will start calling May 2018 cases in a month's time or there are pending cases for folks who don't register on any website and are not concerned with delay :)

Let's hope for the best.

I would take the USCIS timeline with a grain of salt. I had a friend apply in middle of March and he was approved August 9th.

In other news. I received my Biometrics appointment for the end of the month. I am not sure if someone has any experience with this but can you walk into the ASC and if they are not busy they can do the biometrics then. I had this happen during my AOS process. I went to ask them a question and they said if I get them done right there if I wanted. This was in Grand Rapids Michigan though. I have a work conference that is kind of hard to miss so I was wondering if I can do this. Perhaps show up around 3pm or something when they are not busy and request it.

Has anyone done this?

Pardon my ignorance Sam but what is a ROC case?
