Are the traffic fines higher there as well?

I got a speeding ticket for my first offense in CA and they gave me a $400 dollar fine for speeding 78 in a 70.

Bargain. Only 78?

Yeah I was actually going more but that's what he wrote down on the ticket because "he gave me a break for being a federal employee". It was along a stretch of 101Northbound past Santa Barbara and it is a area that people frequently speed.

Is this some kind of Deep State agreement? Sign me in.

I wish it was or else I would have gotten off with a warning. But I was given a ticket anyways so no deep state here.

Also I wish it was a deep state agreement then I wouldn't have heard it from the wife when she found out about it.

But you got a break for being a federal employee. According to Fox and co, the Feds are part of deep state.joke I know you aren't, but that's the way some propagandists want to go.

Yeah she wasn't too happy at all. Espeically she tends to group in that parking tickets and speeding tickets are the same thing. So she loves to tell people how I got x amount of tickets while living in CA even though they were mostly from parking. So I was so happy when she got her first ticket which ended up being a "parked the street when it's street cleaning day" ticket.

Oh, new rule.  I can't add any more reactions today, C'est la vie. Yeah those are the worst, street cleaning days.

When I was on the fire department, I was stopped over 20 times for speeding by local police.  Never received a ticket.  It is an easy job, just a lot of training, and going into burning buildings.

I've lived here for a decade now in the Bay Area. It is supply and demand. Massive job growth coupled with minimal building and strong NIMBYism is why the area has high cost increases.

They haven't really built more, so prices will probably climb for a few more years until either job loss occurs or an equilibrium happens where job growth is curtailed by the lack of housing. Problem with the latter is that it could be awhile as people with higher paying jobs continue to cut in to the housing that the lower middleclass and poor typically occupy.

We recently bought, but have moved out of the core bay area and are on the edge.

I certainly agree, but it would seem like the COL would be a big disincentive.  I am not an urban lover, I hate the smell of big cities, so it doesn't appeal to me.  It is a beautiful place, but the world is full of beautiful places.  Regardless, I can also understand why people would leave if at all possible.

California has some very nice beautiful places outside of cities as well though. You can live in San Francisco and be very close to some gorgeous coastal regions, forests, mountains etc...

When I moved from NYC to Texas I had a similar decision (Though I actually lived in California, San Diego specifically, before NY State, so I've experienced both high COL areas). I would have had a 6 figure salary in New York City, and my options were to either A. Rent a one bedroom for more than my current mortgage (about 50% more, and our current house has 4 bedrooms) or B. Live an hour and a half out of the city and commute every day (and have to get into work around 7, so leave home 5 - 5:30).

I've always prioritized my personal life over other things, so I gladly left.

I am fine with the commute to my job (~30 miles/35 minutes), I am usually up around 3 and leave the house around 4:30/5 (I am a morning person).  I tend to stay away from urban areas due to the long commute times over very short distances, and not really a lot of extras to justify living in a high COL area.  We are starting to look at retiring, and our current interest are NM and AZ.  Of course there are areas in both that are urban and/or relatively high COL, but we love the desert and we think we can find something somewhere that is comfortable and affordable.
