WASHINGTON, May 2–And you thought he was still “the decider.”

President Bush coined a new nickname for himself — ‘’the commander guy” —

on Wednesday, as he criticized Congressional Democrats in a speech to the

annual gathering of the Associated General Contractors of America, a

construction industry trade group.

The man who last year proclaimed “I’m the decider,’’ in response to a question

about whether he would fire Donald Rumsfeld as defense secretary, came up

with this latest moniker in explaining why he vetoed an Iraq war spending bill

that dictated a timeline for troops to withdraw from Iraq.

“The question is, ‘Who ought to make that decision, the Congress or the

commanders?,’’ Mr. Bush said. “As you know, my position is clear – I’m the

commander guy.”

Mr. Bush issued the veto Tuesday; on Wednesday, the House failed to muster

the two-thirds majority necessary for an override and Congressional leaders

went to the White House to talk to the commander guy about a new spending

measure.

Both sides said afterward they believed compromise was possible. But if

Democrats try to tie his hands in prosecuting the war, Mr. Bush has vowed to

exercise his veto power again.

Would that make him “veto man?”

Let's get his "library" open, as in freakin retirement!!!

I cannot wait!!!

A library named after George W. Bush. That would be somewhat ironic.

Would it have a sign out front that says:

"Come inside for books and stuff and things"

It would have to be a library of audio books. I guess he can hear...

Yes, exactly!! But who cares really, as long as he is out of office? I voted for him once, with a misguided assurance based upon his Father's tenure. A man I met, talked with (twice) and highly respect to this day. Sad that offspring sometimes don't follow.

Most of the frontline politicians are of a muchness I think - I doubt that Bush being out will be a good thing, but its not going to miraculously fix the country. Hillary I think would be as bad, if not worse.

Its always been a given that successful politicians are charismatic people who focus as much on presentation as they actually do on solving problems. Yet Bush is the only politician I've ever seen who appears to be genuinely inadequate to hold the office to which he has been elected. Every press conference I've seen him conduct is an assault on the intelligence of the viewer - he seems unable to answer questions, deflecting them more out of not understanding/forgetting the question he's been asked than actually trying to steer the focus of discussion. The presidential debates for the 2004 election were joke. Kerry (for all his faults) wiped the floor with Bush, who seemed to be having trouble with his ear piece and spent most of the time mangling his words, losing his train of thought and apparently relying on aides giving him directions through an earpiece (which is cheating IMO).

Erekose,

You are intellectual, yet you struggle to deliver a clear and concise point, in a brief statement.

Can you clarify, with a "few" words?

Commander guy :P I guess commander guy is upset that the pesky congress guys dont want to give him more money. So he resorts to calling them names. Just like a spoiled child. Upset about not getting his way.
