N-400 process time - is there a difference in how you apply? Married vs Single?

Does anyone notice a difference in how applications are processed based on how you are applying? For example, someone applying with the 3-5 year green card rule or someone who came to the US as a refugee child and has had a green card all their life? Or process time of someone who filed as single vs someone who is married? Because married applications have so much more documents you must submit. I'm just curious.

I came to the US as a child, I have just applied for my citizenship online. I am single, so I wasn't required to submit tax information or any other documents. My application was fairly simple and straightforward, so much so that I'm kicking myself I did not do this years ago. The only document I was required to upload was a copy of my green card. I have been reading all these messages on these boards and I was just thinking if there was a difference on how some of these applications are processed. Some people are required to submit so much more info so I was curious if those like me might have experienced a shorter process time. I guess I'm hoping mine will go faster because it appears to be a simpler application. Hahaa

The short answer is no.  Your timeline will be impacted more by a) your local office and its current filing loads and b) whether you encounter any issues during the background check process.  Your speed through b) can be impacted by your current nationality, the uniqueness of your name and in some cases random luck - a certain number of manual checks are performed and if you are selected that can slow things down.  So those factors will impact your timeline far more than whether you file as a single or married person.

What does this mean?

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

I believe you are only required to submit tax documents if you are married and filed taxes as married (someone can correct me if I'm wrong). But I submitted my N-400 application online and the only required document I had to upload was a copy of my green card.

Where did u get this info from??

you are require to submit tax information regardless. Make sure you have your transcripts handy for your interview. In fact your application could be denied if you failed to filed taxes

I think you misunderstood me. I'm not saying I do not file my taxes, I file my taxes with the IRS every year. I was referring to the N-400 application supporting documents.

When I filed my N-400 application online last week, the only supporting documents I was required to upload to the USCIS website was a copy of my green card so my tax forms were not required documents. I have copies that I could bring with me when it comes to the interview, I was referring to what was required of me when I initially submitted the application.

Sorry if I didn't understand you. I passed my interview and didn't send any taxes with my application, filed under 5 year rule. At the interview the IO asked me for the last 3 year taxes.

There's probably a slight increase in the speed of processing a more straightforward application than one more convoluted, but nothing that would really make much of an impact of difference between the two.

Mostly, it depends on the speed of the field office as well as the backlog of the individual officer assigned to your case.  There was an "interview Q&A" type of thread on here a while back with a former USCIS adjudicator, and he did admit that sometimes he and his fellow officers would "cherry-pick" cases on their desk that they knew they could speed through more quickly to get them out of the way first.   He also noted that it didn't make for any sort of significant difference in processing time overall compared to the rest of the applicants an officer has to deal with.
