That is pretty much always the case, but I've never understood why b2 applicants in India are so keen on carrying an inch-thick file to the interview

One thing for sure - they don't want to go back again to submit pending documents so the approach of being "safe than sorry".  Secondly, the cost and effort to travel back and forth is significant because not every city/state has an embassey who can issue a visa.  So people prefer to have everything on-hand just in case visa officer requests to see a document.

So, carry an inch-thick file when 99.9% nothing would be looked at?  COs/embassies provide ways to submit documents electronically in the VERY RARE event something additional is required.

As is stated on the official web sites and is repeated on here all the time.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I can't really speak for others, its their personal preference.  I wouldn't really care how they go about their business, they wana carry a 2-inch thick file or a suitcase full of documents - Go Ahead!

I don't care either, just pointing out India applicants' tendency to carry a whatever-inch thick file to a b2 interview. I see that on various India-centric forums I'm on with regularity.

Maybe it's just me, but if somebody approached me with a 2 inch binder of documents as to why they would return home, I'd be wondering about their intent to actually do so. Sometimes less is more. 🤷‍♂️

Agreed.  What can we do?  Sometimes ignorance is a bliss.

Maybe it's good business for FedEX ferrying those invitations, affidavits, w2s, tax returns, what have you from the US to India to pad that b2 folder.

Sad for the trees though..

The only real thing about the documents that annoys me is the angry “i brought all these documents and they didn’t even look at them” comments!

True..

And the ever so mythical "I sponsored so and so for a tourist visa"!

I used to ask what magical documents they had, did not end well.
