I must have you mixed up with someone else. You have never mentioned gun laws or changing them. You are in favor of existing laws and think they are fair. You believe the Second Ammendment still applies today as it was written 250 years ago.

If im going to pay by my income, I’m going to have to prove it to someone.

are you trying to prove my point now or what?

you do, every year when you file your taxes.

exactly, rich people have the means to challenge and get out of their consequence.

sure, and you can hire a lawyer and refuse to disclose your income, plead your case and the judge will decide what the punishment is. for elitists who have the time/resources to waste just avoid owning up to their 'personal responsibility', i hope its normally hours and hours of unpaid community service.

Or everyone can just pay the fine and stop speeding. Much easier.

I simply gave a sarcastic reply to what you post about gun laws.

And no one has access to my tax return without my written permission.

You’re opening a big can of worms for very  little return on the investment. Dining by income has about as much chance as banning firearms.

But someone has to make sure the proper fine is being paid.  Then there are out-of-state and foreign issues a locality would have to deal with.  Not as easy as you think.

yep, states already pay collections agencies. not as difficult as you think.

uh, yeah that's why i said you're proving my point.

good for you, you're also not speeding. looks like you're out of the woods!

i had no idea i wasn't making any headway. i thought for sure we'd have new fine laws implemented nationwide by the time i finished lunch. now i has sadz.

If I get a fine for speeding, it’s my fault. I know the consequences and I pay the fine. I’m not going to whine about it because Bill Gates has more money than I do and still pays the same fine. I need to be more alert and drive carefully.

the premise of the op has nothing to do with poor people whining or being jealous of rich people.

If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime.

I think that is a very poorly made catch phrase for illegal activity.

Speeding isn't risky just because it carries with it a risk of a fine. It is risky because it is dangerous to yourself and others on the road. The fine is a deterrent to speeding, it isn't the reason speeding is bad.

If the fine is the equivalent to lose change in your car cup holder, it isn't acting as a deterrent.

It was made in response to some who have sympathy for poor people paying the same fines as wealth people. Safety wasn’t part of the discussion. Obviously it doesn’t work as a deterrent, just as the death penalty doesn’t deter murder or violent crime. And opioid deaths don’t deter their use.

That is speculative.

You don't know it doesn't work as a deterrent unless you have data without the fines showing the rates of speeding are the same.

A deterrent isn't expected to bring the rate to zero. It just needs to reduce it by whatever degree you consider "worth it" for the effort of the deterrent.

Fines are quite easy since the "effort" is quite minimal compared to their secondary benefit (raising money). So they don't need to reduce the rate by much to make them worthwhile.

It isn't hard to see that a 150 dollar fine means a lot more to someone in 20,000 a year than someone on 1,000,000 a year. It's simple math.

So does this mean police should spend their time targeting speeders in expensive cars where the payoff will be substantially better?

Skip the speeding 10 year old beat up Toyota Corolla and go for the Lexus or Mercedes or BMW.  You know thats' going to bring in more money.

Nothing wrong there, right?
