Moving address - Will I go to the back of the line at the new field office?

Hi all!

So I get to finally file my N400 application next months. I am living in Los Angeles right now but will be moving in July to Chino which is in San Bernardino county. LA office N400 is processing May 2017 application right now and San Bernardino is processing August 2017 so it is much faster. So my question is this, If I file in LA and then change my address, I know my field office will change. How much delay should i expect in this change AND will my case remain in line based on my filing date at the new office? Or will it be accepted and put to the back of the line as if it is a new application. Thanks so much!

I moved and it impacted me tremendously, and yes it was like I was at the back of the line. I moved out of state so not sure if that made it worse, but knowing what I know now I wished I had delayed updating my address. I would tell you to wait until you move. My case is still pending and I file in Nov 2016, moved to Atlanta in July, got my interview here last month and I'm still waiting for the oath notification. Granted  I filed paper application so not sure if online will be better.

02/05/2014[Day 96]: I-485 Interview Date (rescheduled) Approved on the Spot!!
02/05/2014[Day 96]:Email and Text stating that my I-130 approved, that my green card has been approved
02/12/2014[Day 103]:Received Green Card in the mail

07/01/2017: Moved to Atlanta

02/14/2018: Naturalization Interview (Decision can't be made)

Interesting, I will be filing the paper application but I wonder if your delay is caused by the 3 month residency wait that is required if you move out of the same service district or state. These things delay it substantially. I’ll be moving 45 miles away, different city but same state and district. 

 

I do have an out of state move planned but this won’t be until end of this year, early next year at which point I would hope it should all be sorted.

Well I did do an infopass and the officer did let it slip about the three months and then I guess after the three months passes they put me in the interview to be scheduled Pile. So if in your case it doesn't apply you may be fine. My $0.02 do an infopass if time allows and ask, but on the surface you may be fine

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
