My fiancee has a Philippine passport but her son, who is 8 yrs old, does not have a passport. We have put her sons name in the 129f form. Still waiting for approval (received RFE 2-28 in the mail, sending the response Monday (took awhile to get the documents required))

My question is, since he is 8 years old, would he need a passport?

If he does, what is the quickest way to get one in the Philippines?

There is over a 3 month waiting period for an appointment to get a passport.

She has never been married. Sole Custody of her son.

Thank you for your time

EVERYONE needs a passport to travel internationally. You need to send a copy of the passport of the beneficiary and the dependents going with them along with the 129f packet. I don’t know where people get this idea that kids don’t need passport. They’re people and they’re traveling internationally. They need a passport. It doesn’t matter how old you are.

I found this and some others stating that if under 16, they do not need a passport. I am just trying to double check

Most airlines won't allow anyone to board an international flight to the States without a passport.  I thought infants didn't need them but everyone else did.

The info you quoted has to do with requirements when applying for the K2 visa.

It has nothing to do with the requirements for international travel.

I appreciate your time everyone. I feared that was the case, but doesn't hurt to ask.

Still trying to find the fastest way to get his passport.

My fiancee got hers at Tacloban a few years ago and they only took walk ins, no need for appointment.  She thinks Manila is the only office that requires an appointment.

i believe 7 years old and below do not need appointment in getting a passport, try searching for available slots other than manila or you can go directly to dfa and try/hope if they will let you in. maybe they will give some consideration since he's a minor. goodluck!!

Keep in mind that the actual visa is a stamp that goes in the passport.  He will need a passport in order to get his visa.

Traveling outside of Manila will help speed things a bit.  I had a friend who just got a passport in Batangas.  I'm not sure how long that took though.  It certainly wasn't months.
