Why does it have to be concealed for? I have been walking around all day with my Glock 22. .40 on my hip doing open carry all day today. I did get some looks from people but once they saw I had 4 kids with me they were ok I guess. I also took my son shooting out in the woods in the back today as well.

Believe it or not but my firearms didn't just jump up from my hip and start shooting people. It's people not the guns.

Personally, I prefer concealed (though I don’t really do it much other than to be legal in the vehicle).  Have never seen the need to advertise what I have at my disposal to the public.  That’s private, if you will.

Not that I am against open carry.  See it all the time in gun stores.  No big deal.  But people who walk around with rifles on their shoulders... yeah, I don’t think that is cool at all.  Much bravado, and probably very little skillz to back it up.  Just my opinion, of course.

Speaking of you, ever paid attention to that little town not too far from you named Kennesw?  Pay attention to their crime rate. And their stance on guns.

And in spite of you not being able to grasp the meaning of the link I posted, I did so because Val has asked me in the past to provide proof that carriers of guns have ever prevented a mass shooting.  So when one crosses my path from now on, I will post it.  Sorry in advance if you cannot handle the truth...

Well that seems more honest. I don't get this gun culture thing. Were you taking your kids into a dangerous area?

No, just out and about in Fayetteville NC that's it. NC is a open carry state so as long as you are able to own a firearm you can carry it. I just like having that option of protecting my family if something happens. I tried to post a pic of it on my hip but it was over the memory allowed.

Serious question. Do people avoid you when you carry a gun? Won't your kids make less friends or do you just hangout with other gun carriers. Stay safe!

oh, you're now living in NC.

you said you wanted to go into politics. Would you canvas carrying a gun on your hip?

Edit the pic.  Even if you do nothing to it, except maybe crop it a tiny bit, it will reduce the camera size down to normal internet JPEG size, and it should post fine.

No, they don't avoid me at all but I do get second glances that's for sure. But I am with my kids and no one says anything to me at all. I carry .40 caliber full size pistol not a compact, when I get my CCW I will get a compact for carrying concealed.

My wife thanks I am crazy because she thinks I am just showing off my guns like soldiers do in the Philippines. But we were at Target last week and this really hot chick was open carrying a compact pistol as well. I had to show my wife that I wasn't crazy after all.

I live 25 minutes outside the closest big city out in the country so it's very common out here to have firearms. I hang out with anyone that's cool most of us gun people are good people just like everyone else. Let me give you an example from when I lived in CA, I took my neighbor and his teenage daughter shooting out to a range one day because they had never gone shooting before. So I took them and we all had a good time overall and he was amazed at how many different people were there shooting. There were white, black, Asians, Hispanics, and even a girl in a wheelchair shooting, so he was amazed because he thought only things people liked shooting.

My neighbors on my right are transplants from NH so they are new to the South, so they are amazed by it all but the still allow my neighbor on the left to take their sons shooting. But we back up about 150 acres of woods and  have seen coyotes on occasion, the first time I was talking to the transplants they were telling they have a BB gun to scare them away and I told him flat out I have something more powerful than that to take care of them. Because they have been known to go after kids if they can and I don't won't my 1 or 4yr old attacked. They are fine with us having guns and what's funny is my neighbor to the left has more pistols than I do.

Yeah we moved back to NC at the end of December due to accepting a job here. I got 2 offers at the same time, one here and one in VA, so I choose to come here for better promotion potential. So it's a nice adjustment for the kids going from a small apartment to a large house.

I will go into politics it's just a matter of time. Trying to decide which district because I have property literally in different districts due to how the borders are where I am from.

Maybe the hot chick was crazy? They usually are. Lol. Like your wife I haven't been raised in a gun culture so I understand her position. Good to hear you're doing well.

But can you answer the question. Would you carry a gun on your hip when canvassing? Would it not be off putting in your area? (I've never visited NC)

I wasn’t raised in a gun culture either, but I certainly understand the right of self protection.  I have also worked very closely with many police departments, and it is a myth that they are there to proactively protect anyone.  If one is lucky, a police officer may be minutes away, but more than likely it will be a 10+ minute response time.

The courts have ruled more than once that police have no responsibility to protect the public.
