also, i put this put as a discussion..i understand sister WOM commitment and point of view...but in the end, Israel is here to stay as are the folks on the West Bank and Gaza....hatered has not gotten the issue solve..just got allot of dead people and allot of innocents dead on both sides...

I don't know anyone who disagrees Israel is here to say, or in fact, doesn't have a right to exist. Nor do I know anyone who actively believes hatred and violence is the way to solve this issue. I do, however, know that Israel isn't an innocent bystander just getting it's little butt ravaged by Arab rockets and suicide bombers without provocation, without infinitely inequitable recourse, and without welfare from the US.

And she was right too. When Israel was created, the people who lived in Palestine

(about 500,000 of them) did not identify themselves as "Palestinians". There was

no "nation" of Palestine. Their relationship with the Jewish people and the State of Israel

was fundamental in shaping that identity.

Incorrect. The term "Palestinian" was certainly in use no later than the British Mandate. At that time, of course, it referred to all Muslims, Christians and Jews born and living in Palestine. It was the Zionists who wished to establish a separate identity, and who began using the term "Israeli" instead. Today, the term "Palestinian" is most commonly used for Muslims and Christians, because very few Jews in the area choose to use it to describe themselves (although a few do.)

So if you look at history, it was actually the Israelis who "didn't exist" before 1948. But Palestinians certainly did

Remember, the Palestinian people were under the rule of the Ottoman Empire, as were most of the peoples of the Middle East/North Africa region. Do you also deny that Syrians and Lebanese and Iraqis exist ?

Also, not sure where you're getting your numbers from, but they're wayyyyy off.

The British census of 1922 counted 752,048 in Palestine -- 589,177 Palestinian Muslims (78% 83,790 Palestinian Jews (11% 71,464 Palestinian Christians including Greek Orthodox, Roman Catholic, and others (9%) and 7,617 persons belonging to other groups (less than 3%.)

By 1947, according to the table extracted from the "Supplement to a Survey of Palestine," prepared by the British Mandate for the United Nations in 1947, the figures were:

Total 1,845,560 -- 1,076,780 Muslims (58% 608,230 Jews (33%); 145,060 Christians (8% and 15,490 others (less than 1%.)
