took  that information right off the USCIS website

I know lots of people here on Work Visa's and can not think of one who does something a USC could not.

Some require Labour Certification but many do not.

and actually UK is a bit “special” because you have two different types of 3 year degrees. Hons is equivalent to US 4-year, an “ordinary” isn’t, latter seem to be fairly rarely done though.

Not really two types of degree, it’s not like America that has the associates and bachelors, just that you don’t get the ability to put hons if your grades are too low. So the below is the grading system

  • First-Class Honours (First or 1st) (70% and above)
  • Upper Second-Class Honours (2:1, 2.i) (60-70%)
  • Lower Second-Class Honours (2:2, 2.ii) (50-60%)
  • Third-Class Honours (Third or 3rd) (40-50%)
  • Ordinary degree (pass) (30-40%)
  • Fail (no degree is awarded)

Note that the marking is harsher so that to get the top grade 70% or above is needed.

Like I said before, an ordinary is not equivalent to a US bachelors, even though it’s a pass grade, while an hons is considered equivalent. That’s what I meant by “two types”. You can get an ordinary through simply deciding not to do a dissertation, not just through bad grades. I know people that have taken that decision.

I did not suggest H-1B as the preferred method because of the number of staffing agencies catering to Indians. Someone from elsewhere would find it difficult to obtain employment in one.

If OP has financial means and academic ability, he could try for a US degree - generally a masters.  However, the financial aspects are a challenge for even US citizens.

It is unfortunate that work visas are pretty much limited to a very small number of countries.  Green cards are better because of the country limits to prevent the system from being overrun by immigrants from one country.

There is nothing about the US immigration system that is fair or makes sense. (My favorite is the speed in which a guest worker can bring in a new spouse verses a USC or LPR bringing in theirs.)
