Selective Service Question

Good Morning everyone,

 

So while I wait for the ROC process to run its course I did some reading about the N400 and have a question about the Selective Service question.

 

Now, here is some background.

 

My ROC wont get approved until probably the end of this year, ( Nov 2017 filing date)  I turn 31 in August.  Now I first came to the US as a tourist (non immigrant) and never overstayed or anything like that and left after every trip to go back to my home country, each trip was between 2 weeks and a month long. My first trip here was in 2013, which would make me 26ish  years old ,basically when I first travelled here. Now, I arrived on my k1 visa  on Sept 1st of 2015 which would make me 28 at that stage, and as far as I know I would not have had to register for selective service, is that correct? I believe it is required from the age of 18-26.

 

Would I need to still get a letter from the Selective Service department stating that I didn't need to register? or has anyone in any similar situation already dealt with this before, I would  appreciate  your thoughts.

Shouldn;t have to do anything about it since you, as you said, were 26 when you came legally on the K-1.

 

Same for my husband, he was 26 when he came, now 27, so he didn't have to sign up for the SS. I believe it is actually ages 18-25 who have to sign up with some exceptions of course.

We actually went ahead and got a letter from the SS people stating that he didn't sign up because he wasn't required as he was older than 26 when he arrived to the US,  just in case we end up getting an RFE for it or something. It doesn't cost to get it anyway.
