Sorry if this has been asked...but I've searched everywhere, and I can't figure out how to compress these PDF files! The new CEAC system doesn't allow anything over 2MB. All of my pdf's need to be resized. Some are as big as 10mb. How are people compressing the I-864 down to 2mb???? Please help!

Dang, how is your I864 that large? I just checked mine and it's only 622KB. Maybe your editor is adding something? How big is just the empty PDF that you download from their site? Also, not sure about this but I assume NVC isn't gonna be too excited about receiving altered (compressed) PDFs.

Edit: Just checked the empty I864 and it's only 515KB according to https://www.uscis.gov/i-864 . It seems that somethings getting added.

Trick is to "Print" your PDF file into another PDF file using something like PrimoPDF

1. Install PrimoPDF, see link below or google it

2. Open your document in your favorite PDF viewer

3. Important >> Select Primo PDF from the drop down menu as your printer

4. Follow the PrimoPDF wizard instructions, select a quality, and hit print.

5. Look at the new PDF that was just created, if it's under the size limit then great otherwise redo the process from step 2, and go down in quality in step 4.

I have Acrobat Pro and I can manipulate the PDFs, I know is an expensive program, I hope some of your friends have it. The other option is to rescan the documents and lower the resolution before scanning.

I used Acrobat reader...even before I printed and scanned, my saved document is over 2MB. The blank document is a lot smaller. I don't know what's happening.

Ah seems like a problem with your scanner. Most scanners will let you select a format and quality when scanning. The resulting document size depends on the format and quality you choose. My suggestion is to read up on the specifics of your scanner.

Scan to PDF and select the file size or resolution in your printer interface.

Be sure to us Adobe reader instead of some other application.

Thank you everyone...I was able to adjust my scanner to a lower dpi. My files are now small enough. I just don't see the bar code at the bottom of the I-864 since I printed and scanned. Is it ok to send without the barcodes...will it really slow down the review process?
