Questions about online N400 filing

Dear all,

I am working on my N400 online, and there are a few details that I am not certain about and would appreciate your advice.

1. Where you have lived (5 years)?

We have moved twice in the past 5 years, and in between the moves, we did road trips and thus did not have an address... so what should I fill in here? Is leaving two periods blank an option?

2. Schools and employments (5 years)

I had been graduate students for a few years, and get paid through fellowship (so had W2 etc). By definition I was not an employee, but I also don't want to confuse the officers if I will only enter school info, but submit W2 for that period. Any thoughts?

3. The already asked millions times question - about citation

I had a citation about not changing lane when passing by a police car and paid $100 fine through a PIA agreement. I understand it should be unveiled. My question is that, once I click "Yes", then next page it asks me to upload documents - however, the instructions says any citation under $500 does not require uploading documents. So... I am assuming I should still upload my documents, and describe I paid fine? Any advice?

Thank you very much in advance!

1. Try entering that information as you described. If the system detects you have been able to account for the last five years, you will move on to the next section and you will see a message that says you have been able to account for all the time. submit an explanation in the Evidence tab about why you had no address for 2 months.

2. Submit the W2 with an explanation.

3. Yes, include it in the application and turn in the documentation showing how much you paid.

When you start an online application, you don't have to submit the application right away.  You can update is as documents become available or review the questions until you are ready to submit and pay.

I'm not an expert, but this is what I would do...

1. Where you have lived (5 years)?

We have moved twice in the past 5 years, and in between the moves, we did road trips and thus did not have an address... so what should I fill in here? Is leaving two periods blank an option?

I don't think you are allowed to have gaps.  We tried to leave a gap in the unemployment part (for the time he wasn't allowed to work prior to getting the EAD), so we had to put unemployed.  If you truly didn't have an address, I'd see if you can submit without one.  If you can't submit without an address, where would you have received mail during your transient stage?  If it is a parent's house, you might have to put that.  Or, you might need to put the address you had before you started your road trip.

2. Schools and employments (5 years)

I had been graduate students for a few years, and get paid through fellowship (so had W2 etc). By definition I was not an employee, but I also don't want to confuse the officers if I will only enter school info, but submit W2 for that period. Any thoughts?

My husband has two jobs that run concurrently.  So, you could potentially list the school twice.  When you put in the dates for employment, it will ask you what your job was.  You can type in Fellowship through...  I don't know if you would have to do that, but if you are worried about it, I'd list it that way.  You can always explain in the interview that you added it because you received a W2, and though by definition you weren't an employee, you did get paid.

So... We listed ours, but we did not upload the paperwork.  My husband will take the documentation to the interview.  He had two citations both under $500.  One is not on his record (per the county).  The other was changed to a non moving violation.  We listed both anyway.

Thank you so much @visaqueries and @marriedtomrg. I have finally filed my case! The system shows the waiting time is 13 month:o... During this time, my green card will be expired -- should I take any additional action for that? (I don't plan to travel abroad)

Your status as an LPR doesn't expire; only the date on the green card expires.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
