Passport with maiden name while filled in husband's name.

My international passport bears my maiden name as it was issued before I got married and it's still valid. Petition was filled in my husband's surname. Most of my documents has my maiden name.  I'm at NVC stage yet to collect and submit my documents. I went to collect Police certificate and they demanded that I have to fill in my details as it appears on my passport.

My concern and question is.. I hope the passport and police certificate in my maiden name won't affect or delay the process since NVC has addressed me in my husband's surname when they sent me welcome letter.?

It shouldn't cause any problems. You submitted your marriage certificate which is used to prove your name change, and presumably you put your maiden name under "other names used" so you're covered. It's normal. I did apply for a new passport in my married name but I didn't have to for immigration purposes, I needed it to get my other id changed.

The police certificate should not present a problem.  However, the visa and green card are issued in the passport name, so you will want to get a new passport with the name you'll be using going forward.  A little late to ask this question.  I hope you have time.

Thanks for your contribution and replies. I called NVC and they said I can use the passport if it's still valid.

You CAN but you've been told the reasons why you should not.  You want the visa and green card issued in your married name.  So, get the passport updated to the married name.  It's much easier that doing a name change later.  There's "can" and then there's "best practice".  Pursue excellence.

I have similar experience but I opted to change my passport with my married name at NVC stage which I highly recommend. The visa and green card will be issued depending on your travel document. Unless you dont want to carry your husband last name then its fine. But if you intend to change it you would pay another  $450 or $475 just to have a new card with your married name on it
