Hello everyone, I have a question and hoping for some answers from you all.

My daughter arrived in the country on an immigrant visa 3 weeks ago. How long does it take for the green card to arrive in the mail and also she left behind a 6 year old child back home. The consular told her she will need to file for her as soon as she gets in the USA and that it takes 3-6 months to join her. I am a citizen and I filed for my daughter who in turn has a child aged 6 years. 

Do we need to wait for the green card to arrive before we start the process or we can get started? And also, those of you who have done this, what was your time frame and how long did it take for the people back home to join you? Did you use the for. I-824? Thank you everyone

Green Cards usually arrive within a few weeks...in our case, my wife entered the US on June 22......and her GC arrived on July 15th......

Senior Master Sergeant, US Air Force- Retired (after 20+ years)- Missile Systems Maintenance & Titan 2 ICBM Launch Crew Duty (200+ Alert tours)

Registered Nurse- Retired- I practiced in the areas of Labor & Delivery, Home Health, Adolescent Psych, & Adult Psych.

IT Professional- Retired- Web Site Design, Hardware Maintenance, Compound Pharmacy Software Trainer, On-site go live support, Database Manager, App Designer.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

It will take a couple of years, but this should be a sticky for all those applying for Tourist Visa's who think children are some sort of tie.

Three to six months? No...We're talking ~2 years for a visa number to become available, then at least a few months of processing afterwards.

1/2/18: EAD + AP approved (no website update), 1/5/18: EAD + AP mailed, 1/8/18: EAD + AP approval notice hardcopies received, 1/10/18: EAD + AP received

9/5/18: Interview scheduled notice, 10/17/18: Interview

10/24/18: Green card produced notice, 10/25/18: Formal approval, 10/31/18: Green card received

7/19/2017: Visa in hand

As an aside the process is pretty much the same, not sure if the OP is a USC or a LPR, main difference is that with a 6 year old there is a Father involved who will probably need to give his OK.
