Hi! Thanks!

DOS already appears that has sent a favorable recommendation.

USICS still appears "Case received"

Good luck to you!!

I just now received the uscis approval notice! My case was pending 5.5 weeks with uscis. No update on either uscis website

Update on my case: The second-line officer could find my receipt number of the Form I-612 in their system on the phone today. The website says that they received my application in early August. To this date, I have not received any communication regarding the Form I-612 from the USCIS. It's strange that they do not update their website on time, given that mail gets lost all the time.

One observation: I noticed that the date on the envelope sent by the DoS to me is about 2 weeks later than the date of the favorable recommendation letter in that envelope.

Hello,

I also need a J1 waiver based on the No Objection statement. The documents are all prepared, however I have an issue with the self addressed envelopes. Because I am currently in Romania, I can't find Us post stamps.

Has anybody had this issue? Is there an alternative?

Thanks,

Lucia

Hi LuciaC,

The envelopes that they ask for will be self-addressed and will come back to you in Romania with your recommendation letter inside. You don't need US stamps. What you do need is internacional prepaid envelopes that can be send from abroad back to Romania without cost to the sender, in this case the DOS. Check with the post office in Romania if they offer this service. They probably do.

That's a good point. Now that you mentioned I remembered that I did not send those self-addressed envelopes. The issue is that all my stuff has been already received by DoS and they are currently evaluating my case.

Do you guys think it could cause any delay or compromise the outcome of my application? Don't USCIS send the waiver also via email? Do they necessarily need it to send the waiver to me?

I am from Brasil and actually have no idea if our postal offices here (correios) do such service.

Thanks in advance to anyone who might clarify it.

Hi,

As you can read from the previously posts they sent their waiver by mail. The favorable letter from DOS is also sent by mail. That's why they ask for two self-addressed envelopes. What happens if you don't send the envelopes? I have no idea. But I doubt they will pay for those letters.

Yes, Brazil has those envelopes. It's called International Business Reply Service (https://www.correios.com.br/a-a-z/carta-e-cartao-resposta-internacional). If I were you, I would send those envelopes to DOS now. In their website it's said: "

When sending items which have been requested, if you have not already done so, please include the case number and the waiver basis on each document to the following address:

Waiver Review Division
U.S. Department of State
CA/VO/DO/W
SA-17, 11th Floor
Washington, D.C. 20522-1711

This office requests that all waiver related documents be submitted by mail using the above address, unless a waiver officer specifically requested that the documents be faxed.

Thank you very much for the piece of advice. I am definitely sending it this week.

Best of luck to you. Regards.

Sure! Good luck!

Just a correction, the previous link from the Brazilian post office is actually only for legal entities. For individuals, I think this is the one https://www.correios.com.br/a-a-z/cupom-resposta-internacional#tab-3

Just go to the post office and ask for a way to send envelopes already paid to the USA that will be send back without costs to the sender.

Hi!

Just to update you, I received the USICS approval on my mail last Friday, October 12th.

In the end my timeline was like this:

1. DOS took 11 weeks

2. USICS received my docs from DOS on Sept. 26th

3. Received approval from USICS on Oct. 12th.

PS.: USICS online status not updated yet!!

hello fabi_c seems USCIS approved your waiver quickly. Did you get any help from Senators/Congressman, did you expedite it or file for h1b premium processing the same time with just the DOS approval? I'm on a similar timeline as you and wondering when I should start expecting anything. (for me its only been 2 weeks so far so still very early).

Also I realize from others that the USCIS online log in may not be as updated but does calling and inquiring give the most updates info? (will the they see if a case was approved right away or are they also delayed)? Thank you for your help and congrats!

Does all I-612 j1 waiver form undergo background check with the USCIS or only some applicants?

They may require it or not. Not all applicants are subject to background checks or biometric services. From their form I-612 Instructions: "USCIS may require that you appear for an interview or provide fingerprints, photograph, and/or signature at any time to verify your identity, obtain additional information, and conduct background and security checks, including a check of criminal history records maintained by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), before making a decision on your application, petition, or request. After USCIS receives your application and ensures it is complete, we will inform you in writing if you need to attend a biometric services appointment."
