Every one is adult and answerable for his/her own acts. Just for the matter of fact that your relative is/was illegal and you were aware of it, doesn't bar some one to receive benefits. That illegal individual is him/her self answerable to INS. Not their relatives.

You can be a relative of illegal alien and still receive benefits as long as you satisfy the requirement of that benefit.

This isn’t just a “relative” who he is “aware of”, it’s a spouse that the green card holder will be living with, supporting etc. He will be an active participant in enabling her to be in the US illegally.

Hm, could be interesting filling in the N400 which asks date of marriage, where spouse lives and what immigration status of spouse is.... maybe it’s not a bar as such but personally I’d want to know I’d be on very strong legal ground trying to get citizenship while answering that my spouse has been living illegally with me for 3 years.

I could see how it could be described is aiding an abetting but in prective nothing happens.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
