NVC sent to WRONG US embassy for further processing

We were informed today after calling the NVC that our K1 Visa was sent to Kampala by error of the NVC as Kampala (Uganda) does not process K1 visas.  We had requested on our I-29F all for our information to be sent to Kenya which is the closet embassy to my fiancee that processes K1 Visas.  I am so sad as I know this will create a significant delay.

I was told at NVC that it was now my responsibility to contact the embassy in Kampala and request the NVC case be sent to Nairobi Kenya instead...

Does this make sense??  Any ideas on the best  plan of attack to get our NVC case to correct the embassy in the quickest time???

Case was sent to Kampala on 3.12.18

Why don't you start by contacting Kampala? Generally it's true that once a case is sent to an embassy it is out of the hands of NVC or whoever is dealing with it from an admin perspective in the US. Now, you could stand your ground and insist that because NVC made the error that they should correct it, but surely your goal is to get it moved as quickly as possible rather than waste time insisting NVC do it ? If I were you I'd be in contact immediately with both Kampala and Nairobi explaining what happened and asking what you should do next to get the case moved as quickly as possible. You might even find that Kampala, which obviously knows it doesn't process K1s, is already in the process of transferring it to Nairobi. Good luck!

If NVC already sent the case to the wrong embassy, then there's not really anything for them to do now.

While you can contact the wrong embassy first and try to have them handle it, I would personally treat it like an embassy case transfer instead. For an embassy case transfer, you would contact the correct embassy and have them request a case transfer from the wrong embassy (once they have it).

Or contact both and see who responds faster. ;)
