we can't get decent trade skills offered at the highschool level and you think gun training is imperative? no. just not relevant at all.

You are the one who raised it, I am sure if Schools partnered with local groups the cost would be nominal.

i wasn't talking about training for students. i was talking about training for adult gun owners. what local groups? there is a dude that runs a survival defense training camp sort of thing but i don't think he's in it for charity purposes.

Always start early, 4H and Appleseed for example.

4H is already heavily involved in this area, my specific county especially cause we've got all the farms/livestock. didn't know they did much in the way of gun training though.

I know they do it around here, and there were quite a few in my Hunting Class. none on my concealed carry as there is a minimum age.

virginia department of game and inland fisheries does the hunting classes here, they're mandatory for a license to hunt.

There are programmes out there, just need to be expanded.

but why? school shootings don't happen because kids aren't properly skilled marksmen.

Appleseed admittedly has a major element regarding marksmanship but also has other significant elements to it, neither Hunting or Concealed Carry cover marksmanship.

school shootings don't happen because kids have never handled guns in a controlled setting/learning environment. better?

Imagine how many more accidents kids would have with no driver training? I’m guessing texting and driving is still causing a lot of accidents in this age group. If you’ve ever driven or ridden in a big truck you’d be amazed what you see people doing in their cars while driving.

11 per day seems to be the average for 2017 on the texting teens thing.  Over 4K a year.

all the gun threads we've had here, i don't think i've seen anyone ever suggest banning guns. yet it's constantly brought up.

yeah, proper training is a no-brainer.

Because banning AR-15's is .. oh its not a gun its an a weapon

Lots of things I had to do at school which I was not keen on, RE being the classic.

Anyway should not be that big a deal incorporating proper gun handling into the curriculum.

It used to be (though it was not widespread), not sure why it was dropped.  Would have signed up in a hurry to have the government subsidize slinging lead downrange.
