i think he suggested arming any vets that work in the school, or any teachers who volunteer.

and schools have armed resource officers.

It’s really not.  Perhaps these kids should have spent more time in history class learning about why the 2nd amendment exists in the first place.

i want increased gun control. i think it should be difficult to get a gun

and i think that a person should have to prove themselves responsible in order to have one.

my mom was raised around guns and absolutely hates them.

Difficult for whom, and how difficult?  Are we talking everyone in America, or a particular age group?

Isn’t being a decent human with no criminal record responsible to begin with?  If not, how do we measure “responsible”?

I think your mom would be the exception to the rule based on that.  Why does she hate them?  Bad experience in the past?  Did she lose someone to a gun crime or accident?

boy, that's a bunch of questions that are all answered with the one sentence you didn't bold. i know you think that we already have perfectly acceptable gun control already, but there's room for improvement, nationwide.

since when is there a rule that if you were raised with guns you love them?

I’d love for you to quote the post where I said current gun control is perfectly acceptable.  No, let me save you the time... I have never said that.  Of course there is room for improvement, that is true for everything.  The trouble is, you cannot begin to see, or just refuse to accept, that none of the things currently proposed will change anything.

Longer waiting periods... ok, so it takes a week to get a gun instead of a day.  So a killer must plan ahead.  Or steal a gun.  Or borrow one from a friend/family.

POS background checks... can’t be enforced.  How can the police/laws force you to perform a BG check before you sell a gun to someone?

Selling guns to responsible people... a subjective approach that would quickly be shown to violate personal rights.

Banning the sale of dangerous black weapons... racist.  Won’t change anything.

Banning all guns... might work, in 30 or more years, due to the millions already out there. The actual number isn’t known, but far exceeds the published numbers.

I realize change takes time, and we have to start some time.  We all know that taking guns away completely will never happen.  Molon Labe and all that.  There are much larger fish to fry than guns, I suspect, and no one in control today is going to fall on their sword(s) to attack such a minor problem.   Even that one chick who “destroyed” her AR-15 the other day on YT.... Neat symbology that she undertook as a politician.  However, it is meaningless, as she probably owns more.  I know a lot of people who don’t own an AR.  But I know no one who owns just one.

As a person who doesn’t like guns, or think they have no place in society today, I understand it is frustrating for you and others to try to make a bad situation better.  As a person who is very comfortable with guns, it is frustrating for us as well.  The only ones who don’t want to make it better are those who wish to kill.  For the rest of us who would love to see the gun death rates drop even more than they have in the past 20 years, there doesn’t seem to be anything that would actually do much, except totally banning guns altogether.

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

Another mother commented on the post above...

Jennifer Leadens I did this with my daughter yesterday. She was not given permission to join the walk out but did it anyway. She said the same thing. So instead of hanging out with friends after school she got to write me an essay on gun laws and what she thinks shouldchange and why. I made her look up statistics on shootings in gun free zones and how the stricter gun laws in Chicago have impacted shootings. Today she will be writing on the effects of bullying. What it can do to an underdeveloped mind. What she can do to help. And what the local law enforcement did not do to protect those 17 kids. I talked to her and explained that there are gun laws in place and that laws don’t stop criminals. Severely depressed and angry kids don’t care about gun laws

Hillary recently told us that all

women are sheep being led by the significant males in their life.  Are students any different?

So my wife and I were talking about this, and we both agreed that if our kids were in a school where they were marching, and if the kid shared our views(obviously we wouldn't force them to do something they themselves aren't comfortable with) here's how we would deal with this: 1. make sure school knows kid won't be joining the march 2. make sure school knows the same amount of time allocated for them to do this march, our kid would be doing an "anti protest protest" at a different time/day, skipping class with our full support. If one side is allowed to do it for one opinion, when we all know some of those kids just wanted a break but hey another way to indoctrinate young people why not, then the other side should be allowed to as well.

All in all this is just a sad, sad waste of taxpayer dollars.

vehicular accidents are the leading cause of death among US teenagers.

Accordingly, we must ban (as a priority) vehicles, accidents, teenagers, and death.

The mass walkout is a week from next Leap Year.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

We can acknowledge that the adolescent brain is not fully developed (especially on the male side), and also seems to be wired for excessive risk taking (also especially on the male side). Nothing wrong with developing policy around that which we already know.
