I’m male too. I am so worried about my case before I saw your post. I thought female has more advantages than male in the vawa case. But I know I’m wrong. My ex wife is not a physical abuser. She is a mental absuer. I sent a psychological evaluation to USCIS. Can someone will get approval based mental abuse?

I am male, approved in March, have an interview tomorrow. I also only filed based on emotional, mental and verbal abuse. I got 3 RFEs and took 17 months to get approved. VAWA doesn't cate no matter what you're male or female. Even though you only got emotional abuse from your ex-wife, It would be fine if you approve well. Subjectively, mental abuse case is harder to approve than physical abuse. Therefore, You need to prepare well about your proof of abuse. Good Luck for your Journey!

Hello everyone!
I understand that you can request the exemption of costs from USCIS to submit FORM I-485 and FORM I-765.
Please help me with another question:
1. If one asks USCIS to exempt the charges (costs) claiming they have no recourse to submit those applications, does it affect the result of approval ?, since I have been informed that if one requests to be exempted from the costs that USCCIS could interpret that request as one could become a burden on the system and can deny residence (I-485). That is true? What do you think about it?
Thank you…..

For vawa you are exempt from been a public charge. I read somewhere that for vawa, been a public charge or grounds of admission if entered ilegally in the U.S don’t count.

That may be true for Vawa, not really sure, but for I-485, they do not forgive illegal entry.

No, they will not count that as a public charge. I think the problem will be if you have work permit and you r receiving welfare. I know someone Vawa recipient who was asked in the interview if she was on welfare. When I sent form 912 fee waiver I just wrote that I would like my fee waiver because I want to be able to work and all my forms were waive. If you are not on welfare go straight to part 3 and write about why you are not able to pay the fee. Note: I didn’t send any prove. I just wrote a paragraph explaining why. Don’t forget to write down all the forms that you are requesting fee waiver.
