Guys, does it matter at all if you been to US or lived there sometime and then applying for a fiancé visa when you’re not in the country? I know a lot of you are traveling back and forth visiting each other something which my fiancé and I didn’t do on purpose. But do you think having history in US (nothing illegal) would cause not to get fiancé visa? Also, what thou does scan speaketh regarding new updates? Help a Bro out. —  Noa1 09/28 and insanely-going-crazily waiting 🤪

I don't think it would matter if someone has been to or lived in US. As this could be a way that how the couple met and knew each other, right? And as long as everything is legal, it should be no problem. If ppl could even meet online and fall in love, why can't ppl who lived or stayed in the same place falling in love?

hi there

just to make u feel better - i was on a student visa, an aupair visa and spent almost 4 years in total in the US. all legal of course.

and i always travelled 3-6 times a year to the US in the past 8 years and our petition just got approved.

don't be scared and make yourself go crazy :) as long as it was all legal, leaving on time, no overstaying, it's all good :)

As well as @Swissmiss82, I spent two years in the US as an au pair (J1) and I visited my fiancé twice on ESTA for a total of six months. I don't think that having some past in the US is a problem, what is more, it means you certainly do have some past with your fiancée!

@Swissmiss82 & @I.Kat Yes you guys are right. Being in US means that I have had past with my fiancé. I was a student in Is for 8 years and then applied for work visa with the hope that when that goes thru, me and my fiancé would marry somewhere down the road but it got rejected and then I came back home legally and on time so took the fiancé visa route. And it’s good to know your guys stories as well. That’s crazy about all of our stories. Just waiting and hoping for something soon. And @Swissmiss82 I might reach out to you in the future since my dream honeymoon destination is Switzerland, so ya know I need all the pointers from you :-)

@allisonf you’re absolutely correct. If people can meet online then being in the country is obviously the way how a couple met. And everything was legal and I left on time and didn’t over stay. And I must tell you, my fiancé’s name is Allison with Her last name starting as ‘F’ as well. This is crazy. At first I thought you were my fiancé that I literally had to ask my fiancé about that. Haha!

If you were rejected, then that's a bit of a different situation. It doesn't mean the process has to take longer however. But they may question your intentions at the interview, especially if that rejection is close in time. Are you there to work, or are you there to get married to your loved one? If you're really there to get married, why did you initially apply for a work visa, etc. Just be prepared to answer those questions.

And thank you :)

@LizM yes, Liz all of those are great to think about and thanks for making my brain work now. Not that you need to know but the work visa happened cuz I met my fiancé right at the end of my student visa and the next step to stay in country was to look for a job. We didn’t want to marry then cuz we had just dated for few months then. Our plan was to continue dating while being on work visa and then get married. We knew we would marry but we didn’t want to rush into it. And when work visa got rejected, I came back legally to my home country and didn’t over stay and then we had to pursue fiancé visa. Whew. But your questions and thoughts has alerted me to be prepared for those questions. Thanks. Let me know if you have more thoughts :)
