Hi Fellow September Filers!

I am in a bit of confusion with the process. I was sent the Package 3 and I mailed back the DS-160 and applicant form.

Question #1: Is the DS-160 and Applicant form the response to Package 3? I am looking at the timelines of some of you here but I don't understand some of it.

Question #2: After sending in the DS-160, should I be waiting for a response from the embassy for an appointment date? It has been such a long time that I am having doubts about whether I have to wait on them or am I suppose to take some sort of action.

Question #3: Just a clarification, I can only do the medical examination after I receive an appointment date, correct?

Q1: Correct, DS-160 and Applicant form is the response to packet 3.

Q2: You need the schedule the appointment yourself

Q3: Incorrect, you can schedule your appointment as soon as you receive a case number from the NVC. It’s just advised. Just leave 1 week at least between medical exam & your interview.

Best of luck!

Adding to @Penny&Lee: #3 I believe it might vary from country to country. I would double check with other people going through the same embassy/consulate. I know there was one country where you couldn't even schedule your interview until you'd had the medical, if I remember correctly, so it really differs. :)

That’s very interesting! Had no idea that it varied. How strange! Thanks for adding!

Thanks for the response. How do you know when to schedule the appointment? Do they contact you?

I’ve heard some people are contacted and some aren’t - I wasn’t personally. However I kept track of my case here: https://ceac.state.gov/ceacstattracker/status.aspx using the case number provided by the NVC

it will read “ready” when you are able to (and should) schedule your appointment!

Wow, extremely helpful. I did not know about the status tracker. It says:

Your case is ready for your interview when scheduled at the U.S. Consular section. If you have already scheduled an appointment for an interview, please prepare your documents as directed in your appointment letter and appear at the consulate on the appointed date and time. Otherwise, please wait until you have been notified of your interview appointment. Additional information about how Immigrant Visa interview appointments are scheduled can be found at:http://nvc.state.gov/interview

Does this mean I should schedule an appointment?

I haven't scheduled the medical exam as yet. You need an appointment letter to schedule a medical exam according to the interview checklist provided in Package 3.

Do you need to make the payment before being able to make an appointment? I was able to complete up to the payment forms and not sure how to go further.

What was your experience in this case?

Confused by what you mean. Once the interview is booked, you’ll receive a confirmation email confirming your appointment. You print that off and take it to the medical exam with you? It was different in my case. I didn’t need to take a confirmation letter of my appt to my medical exam. The receptionist asked if I had an appt yet and I said yes and told her when it was.

Where are you from? In my case I chose the date I wanted, chose courier service and then paid for it afterwards. Are you using the correct site? Feel free to send me a personal message and I’ll help you out further! :)

Don't forget to have a lot of ties to your home especially now you're quitting your job before going.

PC is usually good for 1 year but may depend on the country obtained from.

I've been thinking about that.

Previously, I have my boss signed a letter that I'm still under employment and printed out my rental slips. Both was never used.

Now I will have neither. So I really do not have any proof on papers anymore....

I'm just gonna have to pray and wing it. Best I can do is answer truthfully when they question me.

I have a question, since I noticed the UK in your profile.  My fiancé is in England, and we received our email with our case number and the information that he would be receiving his packet from th embassy.  We were eager and excited and he booked his medical for July 26.  When he called to ask if he should cancel they told him to keep the appointment, and to hope he gets the letter before hand.

Did we screw up the order by jumping the gun?  We are very confused, since they provided us with his NVC case number, we thought it would be ok to book.  Thank you for any help you can give us!

there was no problem at knightsbridge for me concerning the packets when i had my medical exam on may 11th, they didn't even ask me if i'd received them!

you'll be absolutely fine, even if come the 26th your fiancé hasn't yet gotten them yet! (which honestly, he should get them by then anyways)! ^_^ best of luck!

I would strongly recommend you check out the country-specific guidelines in this case. Procedures vary and what is correct in one country may not be applicable in another.

As far as I can see, in Guyana the consulate will schedule your interview for you. Also, you need the appointment letter for the medical - you should look into whether you can schedule a medical or whether you need to wait until you have the appointment letter. I would contact one of the approved physicians and see what they say.

Thanks for the info. We emailed them and they confirmed as you said, they will schedule the interview when it is ready. The waiting is just so hard and you're just not sure sometimes if you are supposed to be waiting or taking action. The instructions from package 3 isn't the most straightforward.
