They go by the expiration on GC which is extended for 1 year by the extension letter.  The extension letter extends the GC to 1 year from the date of 2-year expiration.  GC expiration doesn't matter you can go there any time as long as you scheduled an infopass. In case of emergency, you don't even need an infopass appointment.

Thanks a lot for the info. I was under impression that stamp has to be done before the expiration of extension letter.

You meant your extension letter, right? Your GC should have expired a year ago.

As far as I know, it doesn’t have to be before it expires, you just won’t have a way to prove your status in case you need to do so. I’m going tomorrow to my local office (San Jose, CA) to get a stamp just in case (my GC extension letter expires next week).

Your letter may expire soon (it expires a year after your GC expiration date) but, as far as I know, your remain a LPR until the adjunction of your case.

Thanks Thilimaa !

yes I meant extension letter. Sorry for not asking it right way. But Thanks again!

You are welcome. I just forgot to mention that most likely they will stamp your passport few weeks or a month before the expiration of the GC. Hope everything goes well for you my friend. regards.

I got the stamp a month after the extension letter expired. So, you don't have to get it before the expiration of extension letter.

You will be transferred to NBC as @Derwood was. The IO was correct it will probably be a joint interview. @Derwood  applied in the latter part of Feb and has just had their interview date, unfortunately that will have to rescheduled as they are away.  I think the N400 can speed things up dependent on your local office processing times, it kind of forces them to send your file to NBC to put you inline for an interview. The only thing that seems to make people wait a tad longer are the local field office times. I

am not sure whether or not your ROC file follows your N400 file to NBC. As I have seen posts talking about interviews where the IO was unaware that the person had an outstanding ROC, whether they see this online or the file is in front of them, then I am not sure.  Apparently the security checks for N400 take up to 30 days or the FBI want 98 percent applications to pass security checks before 30 days, then you go inline. You can't see the inline notice on the new N400 system, but you can sort of see it on the old, where they say we have scheduled your interview, but there is no interview notice. You get that interview notice when your case becomes a priority date, which is dependent again on your local office processing times. I hope I haven't confused you, I confuse myself most of the time. Lol :)

We went in today for the I-551 stamp.  The officer told us that our I-751 and N-400 petitions had been joined together at NBC.  He said that when done there, they would be sent back to our local office.

I have been approved for the I-751! Had my dual N-400/I-751 interview yesterday.

The IO wanted both my wife and I to come in, saw I had photo books of my kids and looked at them at the beginning and I narrated. He asked how often we get professional photos, and we said a couple times a year. We had photo books from 2014 to 2017 that he looked at. He seemed fine.

The folder for my I-751 was huge. He went through my name, DOB, where we met, what my marriage date was and then said he was going to approve it. Then onto my N400 interview which was simple (as expected from all the reading I've done in preparation). I was recommended for approval for that.

One thing was I have international travel for work coming up so told him and asked about the I551 stamp and he said I could get one outside. They gave me one until mid July, hopefully I get naturalized by then!

My wife jokes that I now have my 10 year green card valid for 2 months (the stamp in my passport says I-751 approved).

My husband had to quit his job yesterday. He was receiving threats from co workers. It was not a mentally healthy job. Will this hinder his ROC and N-400 process at all?

There is no law to say you need to work, so it shouldn't affect anything.   I am sorry your husband had to go through that, I can never understand why people can be so cruel, especially when they know your husband is thousands of miles from home. Shame on them!  :(

Good luck with the interview, I am sure your wife will fly through it.  I am away as from tomorrow in Charleston for my step sons graduation from the Navy and next week in England, so I wont be online all the time, but I will check in now and again to see how it goes. :)
