And what about  losing your passport which has the stamp ?  That's not just as likely ?

It's just as likely, however trust me losing your GC is far more expensive to replace than is a passport. I lost my GC (thought it was stolen) was stuck in England without a GC to get back into the USA. It cost me altogether about $500 if not more to replace, as I had to travel to the embassy to get a letter to travel, that letter alone cost around $390, plus the train fare to go to London. Had I lost my passport it would have cost around $150.

Yeah very fast indeed. I don't know if I am the only one with the February 2017 filers filing under the 3-year rule that has gotten an interview. But with the USCIS they don't want to get caught in the issue of encouraging something that is not guaranteed especially ROC. Like a previous poster mentioned that they went for Infopass and the agent who had a trainee specifically mentioned that when applicants ask about n400 whilst i751 is pending they shouldn't give out any info or rather ask the applicant to wait till i751 is adjudicated.

But we all know from the filing family that filing n400 will work in the favor of the applicant as if you are called for an interview, majority of the time if n400 is successful then all is good.

What i will encourage though is with USCIS as soon as you are eligible for any petition, go for it and get out of their clutches as soon as you possible can.

Well Pat 80 filed for ROC in Feb, although N400 in January, they have their interview in April, under the 3 year rule and a joint ROC/N400 application.  They just became able to able for N400 earlier than Feb.

Well when I lost my GC in England, I had no stamp in my passport. I had to apply for a travel document, which cost me around $390, thats without train fare there and back. So I used the travel letter, which they give you at the embassy, obviously do checks to see if you are allowed to get back into the USA.

If you have lost both then you would have to apply for both and yes there would be no stamp in your passport, however the transportation letter would allow you travel back along with your new passport. https://www.***removed***/greencard/lost-stolen-greencard-transportation-letter.html

My husbands GC with extension letter expires on May 22nd. We have an infopass tomorrow to get the stamp hopefully they give it to him. It was hard enough getting the appointment. @PositiveThinkerwhat do you think?

I was nervous about this too. But I literally sat down and he was ready to give it to me. It really just depends on the IO you get. I would say just try it.

Hi all. We went to the Infopass appointment I am here to share our experience. The Minneapolis field office was in a tall glass window building very gigantic. We went in and took the elevator to the 7th floor where the office was. It did indeed look like airport security but the security guards were very friendly. My husband was cracking jokes with the security guard who had a wonderful sense of humor and looked like Mario. Even gave him a fist bump. Then we went and sat down we were one of the first ones there. When it was time to check in we were one of the first people in line and my husband showed his appointment notice and says he was there for a stamp. The receptionist was chilled and said alright have a seat. So we sat down. I watched the uscis officers chat about Easter and coffee. I then sat there and said I wonder how much they know about the petititons pending behind the scenes. Everyone in there seemed super chilled out. All the USCIS officers there had a relaxed positive energy. Well this is the Minnesota office after all.

After about 20 minutes we were called to a booth, we were the first ones in the room called. We took a seat at the booth with a young woman behind a computer. She asked for appointment notice, GC, passport, and extension letter so we handed them to her. And she begun to type away on her computer for 15 mins straight just pure silence. And I was thinking "I wonder what all shes seeing on her computer" and thinking "should we say we are just here for the stamp?" After the 15 mins of silence she said "Ok I am going to take the GC and destroy it and put a stamp in your passport which will be good for a year, if your case hasnt been adjudicated by that time you can come in and get another stamp". I then said "How much longer do you think it'll take for his case to be adjudicated?" I then spoke of Visajourney and everyone waiting. She said "Oh its going to take a long time; processing times for ROCs are now 2 years; they are very behind right now, expect interview or adjudication around February of next year" And I then asked "is the case in california still or in local office?" and she said "I am not sure". She gave the impression ROC and N400 would be processed as two separate cases. So she stamped his passport and it was all done and she smiled at us and said just come get another stamp next year if your ROC is still pending. Then we left but not before my husband gave that security guard another fist bump.

I looked at the stamp. It was indeed good for a year and under it was written in red pen "I-751 pending" and under that she had wrote his alien number and CR1 and under that she wrote the case number that was on the NOA1 for ROC the case number that shows the local office status so I thought that was interesting. So yeah that was our experience.

So my interview for N400 is 7 days after my extension letter expires, should I go and get my stamp one week before my interview?

I don’t want to be in the position that I can’t prove my status. Has everyone had their green card taken as part of the process of getting the stamp.

I don't think it matters if you get it before or after: USCIS can verify your legal status in their computer system with your alien number. The stamp is for anyone else to check on your status like a job or for traveling or if you're stopped by the police and you need to prove legal status. By law you're required to carry valid proof of your legal status. So it's a good idea to get the stamp.

And yes most of the time they take the green card and issue you the stamp that's what they did for us. The stamp serves as your temporary GC until you get your new one.

Nice! I am glad that you have a pleasant experience. When I get my stamp I only got it for 6 months. For some reason, the office in Seattle only gives you 6 months stamp. Really strange!
