I wish we hadn't filed for n400 when we did. If we hadn't our ROC would be being approved right around now. What a way to slow down the process. MN filers.

Yeah, so many people advising people to file right at that 90 day mark. Our local office is so backed up we would wait another year + with nothing. I think that CSC and Vermont like it too because it gets the cases off their desks. Oh well.

Hang in there!

Me toooooooo!!!! 🙂  do you know how long it take to get the card from this status? A week, two... or again waiting for months?

very fast! Ours took 8 days from "new card being produced" to receiving the card in USPS.

in many of the cases i am aware of (mine included), applying for N400 definitely pushed the ROC on the fast track. My ROC was moved to NBC (likely to be combined) in May, and I had the combo interview on July 10. GC arrived in the mail July 26 (why they even bothered to print it, I don't know), and my oath is on August 14. I could've still been waiting for the GC, and now I'm almost a citizen.

As I said it depends on your local office. So in our case, they are taking at least 18 months or so. In that case, we would be sitting here with no GC, just a letter or stamp and in pending status for an extra year from now. We wanted to be done with that. Some locations are taking 2 years for citizenship now. It is important for people to research their local office and not rely on other people's timelines. I think Portland is super fast. 50% of people are completed by 6 months.

I spoke extensively with the officer when we went for our I-551 stamp and update on our case. She said not to. Also, once you are approved for ROC, then the citizenship application can go through with less hassle and documents, since they apply different standards.

You are pretty luck that they adapted to make it a combo when they didn't know beforehand. Some people do their N-400 interview, but then that case is put on hold because your ROC has to approved before or concurrently. So those people end up still waiting for CSC to approve them. 😕

I received the same letter today, extending my green card for another 18 months, however, I have been approved and received my 10years green card back in early June. This is confusing me as well.

Same. We received the letter even though we were already approved and have the card. If you look that letter came from Texas, not CSC. They were providing updated extension letters for everyone who was pending. They made an announcement awhile ago, like maybe June or May. So it just took them that long to get the letters out to people.

It is simply that the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.

Just like most of you, I also got 18-months extension letter, after getting my 10-year green card. As the post above aptly says, "Right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.."

I am sorry. I should have updated about my case earlier. Was traveling and couldn't get through updating you all.
My NOA was Feb 10th 2017. I filed jointly with my husband.
Case got transferred to Texas Service Centre in April 2018.
I got approved on 16th July, 2018. Got approval letter in 2 days and green card in 7 days after status changed online.
I am a CSC filer.
Haven't filed for N-400 yet.

I wish everyone who are remaining to hear positive response soon. I filed without a lawyer and it was possible only through the amazing detailed feedback from this group. Seeing so many people helping each other in this tough journey was really motivating....

There you go, I hope you can read it...it is hard to make it flat for the picture, lol.

I must confess that I got all excited when I saw Lady Liberty's arm and then I opened the envelope and it was a great disappointment...oh well.

P.s.: it came from Nebraska.

I think it's complicated, but it's definitely not just up to the local office. Portland takes an average of 6 months to process n400, but my interview was scheduled as soon as I reached my 3 years GC anniversary. And it was scheduled by NBC, not the local office. Of course, it helps that the local office isn't backlogged.

I have yet to hear of anyone being refused a ROC interview at the same time as n400 though. I don't think they're allowed to do n400 without the ROC.

All N-400s are processed by NBC. That is one of their duties to get the citizenship files ready for interviews. They work with the local offices to schedule people's appts. based on the local office's schedule. (Similar to how NVC worked with the consulates around the world to schedule immigration interviews.)  Here is more info on NBC https://www.uscis.gov/archive/blog/2012/06/national-benefits-center-what-it-is-and

Your case was scheduled once your 3 years hit because that is when you are actually eligible, even though you are allowed to submit your file 90 days before. Six months for the complete process is super fast. Some smaller towns and various locations are 3 to 6 months. On the other hand,  I know Dallas, Houston, Miami, Atlanta are very slow for example. The actual N-400 average for all the offices last year was 13 months. So that means most offices are longer than 6 months. Here is some very interesting statistics about their processing cycles. https://www.uscis.gov/tools/reports-studies/immigration-forms-data/data-set-all-uscis-application-and-petition-form-types

I have seen some cases that were able to take their N-400 interview but then the case officer couldn't approve them because the ROC was not approved. Either the officer was not aware and prepared for (or even had the clearance) to do the ROC interview, which is about the marriage being genuine. It is true that they cannot approve the N-400 if the ROC is pending. It does not mean that they do them together every time though. Obviously that is the most efficient if possible. Here is the policy manual for that: https://www.uscis.gov/policymanual/HTML/PolicyManual-Volume12-PartG-Chapter5.html

This most likely means that you have been clear for an interview. Interviews can't be conducted if things like backgrounds checks, names check... are not completed. You are in line for an interview, when is it going to be scheduled? Well, all depends on your local field office. If you live in a big city chances are their are  many N-400 cases waiting. let us hope that's not the case.

How fast officers  in your local office perform their daily duties?

How many officers are cleared to conduct Naturalization interview?

Are they planning to conduct a combo interview, if you have a pending ROC?

These are the questions that determine how soon you are most likely going to be scheduled for an interview.

My interview is scheduled for the end of this month, but I live in a relatively small City, that is the reason why I haven't been waiting so long compare to other applicant living in bigger Cities.

I hope they will conduct a combo interview, if not they are just going to put my N-400 on hold.

Good Luck.

Thanks, badouba. I am in Seattle, they are really slow. I will be in Spain for 3 months starting end of September. I am pretty sure I will get called for the interview while in Spain. I can come back and hope it won't be an issue.

For the N-400 they will send you a notice a month before the interview. I think that's enough time to come back and attend the interview. You might even interview before end of September.

But If you travel before your interview scheduled, I think it is a good idea  to sign up in the dhs website.

 https://myaccount.uscis.dhs.gov/users/sign_up?session_id=5ccc3eb2-f2d2-487e-9c78-044260f5da8e

This ensure that you will get an email notification in a timely manner and even print out the interview notice under the documents section.

Good Luck

I've seen them aproving cases that were transferred a couple of months after mine so I bugged the twice lately sending inquiry regarding the processing time. Maybe that made them pull out my files. Although https://myaccount.uscis.dhs.gov/ doesn't show any changes. I received an email saying that my card is being produced as well as info on https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/landing.do

At least they are moving so hopefully you'll receive good news as well :)
