I  am working remotely this month.

Spent last weekend in Palawan and this weekend we will go to Bantayan

Where did you go in Palawan? I love Bantayan Island it was like paradise for me and people say it is how Boracay looked 20 years ago. Gosh we had a room literally steps away from the Ocean and my asawa was complaining because of no tv GTFOH.

We flew into PP.  Did the Underground River, then did the some snorkeling in the islands in Honda Bay.  Hired a tricycle for the day and he took us to a site to do some spelunking, zip linining and some place called Baker's Hill

We leave Lilo-an tomorrow at 4:30am for the north bus terminal in Cebu City for our trek to Bantayan.  We are staying at Bantayan Huts, which appears to be right on the beach (according to the pics)

YMMV

Hard rule, agreed upon in advance by my fiancee: No television ever.  Videos are ok.  She agrees.  Especially for kids I think tv with its seductive advertising is terrible for children.  I'm ADD and ads drive me bonkers so I threw my television out in 1986.  At a local gym I saw tv once again after 30 years and could not believe the wall to wall advertising.  Yikes.

I haven't watched regular TV in about a decade .. Netflix and such are my source.. still get to watch TV series I like and...  no commercials.    Plus I have a home server setup, stream to any device in the house.

I don't watch American tv shows just because of that reason alone. If I watch a tv show it is On Demand where I have the control over what to watch. The most TV that is on in my house on a regular basis is TFC, other than that I don't watch anything at all. It turns out that working full time, having 4 kids, and going to school for my MBA takes up a lot of time.

Ive mailed a care package to my girl in Cebu City from San Diego, CA several months ago using FedEx. Service door to door took about 5 days and that was with a Philippine Customs delay. FedEx called her when they got to our apartment and she came downstairs and picked up the package from them. It was actually a very easy process.  For papers only it will be an even easier one as theres nothing on note to declare or itemize on in-bound customs forms.

But it IS expensive..

If your girl lives in an area without a physical address (as most do in Cebu City), then make sure FedEx has her phone number. They will call her and either work out with her arrangements for delivery or she can just go to them and pick it up. FedEx is super good at knowing exactly how to deliver packages there that we Westerners would imagine as undeliverable.  I've been on several bus rides to S.Cebu where the've delivered packages and mail to random stops along the way. It always amazed me that the conductor knew exactly where to send the packages. hahaha

I have TV's in my house but we use them mostly as computer monitors, play console games (rarely), and to watch movies, Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon. We do not and will not have cable service. I am not about to allow my children to watch politically motivated shows of mass-indoctrination to left ideology. Just aint going to happen. And the "news" today isn't news at all. It's all propaganda now. Every bit of it. They're not even trying to hide it anymore. Its all out in the open. They are actually lying to the American People now, often times admittedly, right in the open and totally without repercussion.

There's more adds for Prescription drugs on tv now than just about any other advertisement. Literally every other commercial is for yet another prescription drug designed to treat the symptoms created from the last advertised prescription drug...  And if we're not seeing adds for meds, we're seeing adds for lawyers to sue to med companies with...  And EVERY show out there now showcases unfaithfulness as a virtue, husbands and wives, boyfriends and girlfriends cheating on each other, and all other sorts of moral sin... It's disgusting to me. VILE to be honest.

I will not have any of this in my home or around my children, so I agree with you 100%!!!

She doesn't watch local TV in the PI either. We have a TV in our apartment there, but there's nothing beyond very basic (free) cable service that came with the TV/Apartment when we first moved in. It's got all of like 5 channels... Sometimes she turns it on to have noise playing in the background, but 99% of the time she downloads movies or streams Netflix or uses my VPN to watch Hulu... We both get our news mostly through Social Media and the internet these days.

She's going to be shocked when she moves in with my Mom and brother in Alabama come July when she can finally come to the States on her K1 Visa, while we do her AOS and Advanced Parole... Mom has a subscription to DirecTV. Alex wont know what to do with 400 channels of nothingness hahaha...

Yeah I have Directtv now and I am thinking about just doing away with it to go fully Netflix and Filipino.

Its truly the way to go. I have NetFlix and Hulu (paid subscriptions. I get HBO for Game of Thrones through Hulu), and I also get a ####### ton of free streaming of tv shows and movies through Amazon Prime. I get free Amazon Prime as I live overseas and literally purchase the very vast majority of mine and my fiancee's needs through Amazon. Prime just comes with it. However I would reccomend paying for it if you dont already have it.

Do this and cancel DirecTV, my friend. Even wity paying for Amazon Prime, Hulu w/HBO/Showtime/etc, and NetFlix, you're still coming out WAY LESS per month than you're paying to Direct TV.  And almost all of today's computers are easily connected to your televisions so you can still watch everything in high def on your 100" Monster Ultra HD moving picture wall of goodness - Yeah, Im dreaming there too hehehe.

Don't need a computer hooked to a TV to watch any of those, most TVs today have apps built in ( I block my TV from accessing the internet .. .LoL!)  I do use a ROKU for streaming all of those.

Movies Anywhere is good if you have an online collection of movies as it is not geo-blocked like VUDU.

Is TFC in Bisayan/Tagalog?

Neat idea, but not for the first year.  When trying to become proficient in English as a second language, flipping back and forth between Bisayan and Englishmakes it almost impossible to become proficient/fluent in English.  Yes, the person learns the vocabulary, but the brain, being exposed to (in this case Cebuano) the mother tongue almost instantly re-adopts the "structure and intonation" of the mother tongue, effectively over-ruling the proper structure and intonation of English.  I really think the brain says: "Aha...I was right, "r's" and "t's...and, are really pronounced this way, (so "r" becomes "w") not the way that silly guy is trying to teach me.  Worse if a person is studying for a test such as the NCLEX (nursing) the flipping back and forth will severely damage that person's ability to understand and interpret the questions because of structure differences.

Once a person becomes fluent, if they make an effort, then the brain can comprehend and accept that there are, in reality, two separate systems with separate structures, and adapt.

As a neat side-note:  If you teach a child as she grows up to be bi-lingual her language development will be stunted (slowed significantly) for a period of time.  Then, all of a sudden she'll catch up with one language learners, and often then can pick up languages easier than others.  I suspect that the longer time to learn initially is the brain struggling to sort out "dual" rules.
