The first thing you need to do is wait 2 days after POE and then apply for your ssn.

Someone just made a list of what to do when he gets here and clearly SSN was not the first ? The person said Marriage first then  everything follows ... Can you explain why SSN first ?

Because why wait and do it when you can go ahead file for it. Then once you get married just change the name on it if it's required. What usually happens is that people forget to do it or wait until the 90 days is almost up to try to file for it.

So he is the beneficiary and your the petitioner? So after you get married and your take his name you can change your as card to have his surname on it. If he is not changing his surname then go ahead and file for it once he arrives. You can do it before or after y'all get married. But what some people do is wait until day 86 of the 90 days to file for a ssn and then they don't give it to you.

i would also suggest to get SSN first, it helps a lot in getting practical things done. i have found people on here who opted to wait (don't get me wrong, its is ok to wait to get SSN after marriage) but then something happens and they need to get stuff done (get a driver's license, open a bank account, file taxes for examples) and they find themselves stuck without an SSN.

@cyberfx1024 above advises two wait to days after POE to get the SSN, i would say, you can go the next day even as long as your I-94 is already online. check here:

https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/

my i-94 was available online immediately after i POE'd and i was able to go to the SS office to get my SSN the day after.
