How is this even possible? Do we now have to fear when we go to our interviews?

It's possible because she was illegal to start with. She then was given a final order of deportation and did not leave. She was told to file a waiver in 2005 and NEVER DID. It's called read the article before you jump to conclusions.

If you’re breaking the law, then perhaps an interview is not your best move.  Legal immigration is the way to go.

This is why, against the consistent advice we see on this site, I promote the use of an immigration lawyer.

If one is an illegal, this might be ok advice.  Then again, hiring a lawyer does not equate to suddenly becoming a legal alien.

If one is illegal trying to become leg then I would recommend it as well.

Having done the entire immigration process the legal way, we never once felt nervous about walking into anywhere nor any situation.  People who break the law have good reason to be nervous around those who police our country.

Had she hired a lawyer, they may have told her not to try to adjust status within the country, thus saving her from the nightmare she's now in.  People with past immigration issues should hire lawyers.  Who knows, maybe she visited this site and figured out how to AOS.  Maybe we helped her along, because we didn't know the full story.

Well said.

The story seems to imply that she did have a lawyer.  Didn’t stop ICE actions regarding her deportation order.

We hardly ever hear the whole story on here. As someone who still leaves this forum to help people on the rest of the site I am seeing more of 1/3 or half of a story then the OP wants answers. Then when I ask for more info it comes out in bits and pieces, and I get accused of not knowing the process by Monday morning quarterbacks because op did know want share the whole story.

Sorry I don't feel bad for people that only want to listen to what they think is pertinent information and then it doesn't work out. The only way you can grow yourself and better yourself overall is by hearing criticism. Which a couple of us have been accused of being rude to a op for simply stating reality.

I understand the first part.  Second part well, yeah, failure is learning.

Still doesn't change the fact she should have had a lawyer knowing she had past immigration issues.  Hindsight is 20/20 though. :D

Totally agree but those people are usually the ones that don't want to file a waiver or go outside the country for consular processing because "they can't be away from their spouse/family". So they try to do it the easy way and get caught.
