DS-160 Photo

Hi all, 

 

I was wondering if it was just me who was having issues with the photo side of things at the end of the DS-160. 

 

Will I be allowed to take a selfie (in the correct position) from my phone and transfer it to my PC so that it can be edited that way by the crop tool, which seems to be having issues with Google Chrome. 

 

I did have some photo's from the visa function of the photo machine in the UK but this doesn't appear to be big enough for the upload...

 

How did people do theirs?

I can't comment specifically on the DS-160, but I have certainly used self-taken photographs for the citizenship application and passport applications.

I went to an actual place where they took a photo of me then emailed it to me.

(For AOS and passports)

We took photos against a white wall and used the US State Department's photo tool to crop and size it. A selfie won't work because it will be too close up to size properly with the photo tool. Get somebody to take the photo of you with at least your head and torso. There can be extra things on the sides as long as the white background is surrounding the immediate area of your head. The tool will enlarge your head area to fit the template, and crop the rest of your torso and extraneous side background items out.

 

Google "state dept passport photo tool" because their website seems to be offline right now and I can't provide a link. Use the tool on a computer.
