Wrong.  Battery trucks can go 200-300 miles on average.  Diesel, 1200-1800.

Perhaps you should take that up with Reuters.  Don’t shoot the messenger.

Even if the numbers you threw out there at random were correct, they are still 1/5 the range of diesel.  And way more expensive to build.

And arguably worse environmentally.

Tesla trucks have a 500 mile range. I am sure with spare tanks deisel will get 1000 miles, in the flat. If you have a 500 mile trip there is not really a point to make.

Do you have a source for this other than a Tesla (Elon Musk pipe dream) press release?

If you are running trucks constantly the build cost is less of a factor compared to a car that sets in the drive.

Total cost of ownership is what counts.

So pipe dream.  Got it.  I love the statement that the truck will not break down for a million miles.  I guess Elon is only speaking of the drive motors and nothing else mechanical on the truck.  Btw, where is the study showing the cost of ownership will be lower?

Based on the story, it appears that Tesla is transforming into a big corporation that has to deal with the mundane corporation issues such as labor relations and charges of racism.

Ethanol is a horrible waste.  I can't believe it's still being manufactured.  It takes something like three gallons of water to distill one gallon of fuel.  And that doesn't take into account the water needed to grow the corn - about 70-75 gallons of water for each gallon of fuel produced.

In addition, ethanol is very corrosive, and as such cannot be pumped in our current oil pipelines; it has to be trucked, which is more costly.

It might be worth it when distilled for human consumption, but it is very cost prohibitive as fuel,  and is still only in use due to government subsidies.

It blows my mind that this scam is still in effect. It just shows that once you start a government program….no matter how bad it is….it is almost impossible to get rid of.

At least a few places around here still sell non-ethonal gasoline so I don't have to run it through my boat and other small engines.

Same here, but they charge more for it.  So you have to pay a premium to get better gas mileage (offset by the cost), as well as a cleaner engine.  *smh*

Lets see pipe dream:

  • Tesla Market Cap 60 Billion
  • Vehicle Product Launches =4
  • Large Enterprise customers signed up for the Semi > 20

Can we look at the most awesome rocket launch ever again?

These are the companies who have placed orders for the Tesla Semi so far:

  • Walmart: One of the first major companies to reserve the trucks, the retailer has made aggressive investments in technology in recent years as part of its effort to compete with Amazon.
  • Pepsi: Pepsi previously had the largest Semi order, reserving 100 trucks in December.
  • Anheuser-Busch: The brewer announced it ordered 40 Semis in December.
  • Sysco: The food distributor has reserved 50 Semis.
  • UPS: The delivery company placed the largest Semi order to date, reserving 125 trucks on Tuesday.
  • DHL: The transportation and logistics company has reserved 10 Semis to add to its fleet.
  • Meijer: Based in Michigan, the grocery chain has ordered four of the electric trucks.
  • Ryder: The transportation company reserved an unspecified number of Semis in November.
  • J.B. Hunt: The trucking company is set to purchase "multiple" Semis, but hasn't revealed the exact number.
  • Asko: The Norwegian food distribution company has ordered 10 Semis.
  • Posten Norge: The Norwegian postal service ordered an unspecified number of Semis.
  • Flexport: Ryan Peterson, the freight company's CEO, announced the company has ordered one Semi.
  • JK Moving: The independent moving company has reserved four Semis.
  • Loblaw: After ordering 25 Semis, the Canadian supermarket chain announced plans to make its trucking fleet 100% electric by 2030.
  • Fercam: Based in Italy, the trucking company has reserved a single Semi.
  • Girteka Logistics: Not to be outdone by Fercam, the European transportation company also announced its plans to invest in one of Tesla's electric trucks.
  • Fortigo Freight Services: The Canadian logistics company reserved one Semi.
  • Best Transportation: The shipping company also ordered one Semi.
  • Mecca & Son Trucking: According to Jalopnik, this trucking company has reserved one Semi.

Will they be waiting for their trucks like the Model 3 customers?  When I say pipe dream, I am referring to the fact that so far the only information on this truck seem to be in Musk's mind which means we are talking 4-5 years before these folks might even see them.  Beyond that I doubt these customers are going full bore into these electric trucks and for some of them they might even make some sense, but I imagine there will be a big mix in their fleets once the real range is factored in.  I have never said that EVs are worthless, but I still think they will only be a niche market in the end, and most vehicles will remain ICE in some form for a long time.

Getting back to the ethanol topic. Most people don't realize that ethanol burns hotter and is more corrosive than gasoline. That means it eats through the seals and gaskets on your engine and causes other damage long term. Even in E85 vehicles. I know more than one mechanic that advises people not to use E85 even in vehicles rated for it.

That's true because you have to consider the source of the electricity.

As well as the environmental cost of mining the rare earths used to make the batteries and motors.

Mentioned above, but bears repeating.  That’s why ethanol should be drank, not driven.
