Hello everyone, my husband has a GC for less than 1 year, k1 visa,  I was the primary sponsor, and my sister was the joint sponsor, we are both students, we work part time and study,  our incomes is less than 15k, can he apply for Medicaid or that will affect the sponsor and his naturalization? As a puplic charge

 Thanks

No.  Unless you want to pay it all back but it sounds like you cant afford it.

No, your husband can not apply for Medicaid at all. It is a means tested benefit and if he uses it he will have to pay it back.

What you two currently studying right now, going for your undergrad or graduate degree? What I recommend is that y'all both work full time and go to school full time. Trust me it sucks because I am doing it right now all the while trying to spend as much time with my kids as  I can but it can be done.

The only way it will effect the sponsor is if he somehow gets it and has to pay it back. Then the government will come after the sponsor because he was not suppose to be a public charge.

This is the reason you and the sponsor signed the affidavit of support. So he would not be in this situation.
