hello,

I am about to file the I-130 for my wife. We both got married in Trinidad. I am a US citizen living in the US for the past 18 yrs. The marriage certificate lists my address as  my wife's address in Trinidad.

Is this going to cause a problem? Should i correct this before we file the I-130?

I appreciate any help

With the caveat of saying we haven't been approved yet - on our marriage license - my address is listed as my husbands in Morocco, even though I gave them my address in the states.

I didn't think it would matter that much - maybe I'm wrong.

Thank you EandH for your quick response.

Who is the petitioner in your case?

Are you saying that the petitioner's address on the marriage Cert and the I-130 was different?

I also want to add that we are doing consular processing through the embassy in Trinidad.

It is a non-issue.  However, if you were living there when you married your wife, you should list it as a previous address.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

thanks missileman . I was not living there. I just went down for the wedding.

That's the part that has me concerned, it could indicate a conflict with my I-130 as my I130 will only have US addresses .

It won't be an issue, imo.

*~*~*moved from "DCF" to "IR-1/CR-1 spouse visa process and procedures" - not a DCF case*~*~*

Thus is a common issue - many places use systems that cannot cope with overseas addresses or there may be a "residency" requirement (even if it's just 24 hours) for people to marry there so a local address needs to be used to prove that they didn't just step off a plane that morning to get married and will be leaving the same day.

We got married in WA and although the certificate lists my address with my U.K. street address and name of city, it then says "WA" for the state and my husband's zip code. We queried it and we were told the "system" requires a two-letter state abbreviation (which we don't have in the U.K. so it defaulted to Washington) and will only accept numbers fir the zip code (in the U.K. we use a combination of letters and numbers, similar to Canada).

Approved with no issue.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

US Immigration Officials are only concerned with NAMES on marriage certificates, not addresses.  Non-issue.
