Police Records for Third Country

Hi everyone! We are still in the long process of waiting for NOA2 and have started slowly getting documents together for when that day finally comes!

 

In regards to Police Certificates/Background checks I have a question. My fiancé is Albanian and lived in London for around 5 years without documents. We are both back in Albania now, but wondered if this would be a problem to get the police certificate from the U.K. since he was not there legally to begin with...

 

Has anyone else dealt with a similar situation or have any advice on how to proceed?? I would definitely appreciate any help!

I don’t see that as a problem. They’re just doing a background check on you for criminal activity. Immigration status does not affect your criminal background. I would advise to get your police certificates from every country you need to get it from now because it can be a major hassle getting a police certificate from a country you are not currently in. Depending on the country there are several steps to take and it could take a long time.

go to travel.state.gov and check the reciprocity services for the country. the menu on the left will have police records, click on that to get the info

Okay great, thank you! I figured it may take a while so thats why we wanted to get everything in order so we aren't so stressed at the end!
