I've been called a few times,  never served.  The first time I stated I was for Jury nullification, and if you know what that is,  they will dismiss you, but you still have to show up.  The other times I was never picked for the 18 or so people out of 100-120 people.  It goes by drivers license.  If you get a letter, and show up, and regardless if you sit or not, I  think you do not get called in for 4 or more years, maybe.  3 times in 30 years is not earth shattering.  The reason for 12 jurors is that you can not threaten or bribe all 12 for a certain outcome, whereas plenty of judges have been busted accepting bribes and kickback for convictions.  Does your drivers license say "non resident" or something where it is not in the jury pool?

Its yearly in California and my husband was called every year for past 4 years losing 4 days pay, in fact he was called for both federal and county this year so had to be excused from county. If they send me a letter as a LPR I can currently be excused as only US citizens can serve.

My husbands lost work being called on 4 separate occasions and I only moved here 4 years ago, maybe we've been unlucky. It's so expensive to live here in California so even a losing a day unpaid is frustrating. I was never even called in the U.K. and my mum had been called twice in 40 years

Being done with uscis forever is certainly a pro

I'm 52 years old and never been called for jury duty. Kind of dumbfounded that you would make a decision like this  just because you may or may not be called for jury duty.

I'm 47 years old and for some reason I've never once been summoned for Jury Duty. I have no idea why...- Anyway, even if you were summoned, they send the notice out with the regular mail, they have no way to know if you open the letter or not, for that matter they don't even have proof that you received the letter, and even more so,  maybe the reason I've never been called to Jury Duty is that I throw away any piece of mail that is not a bill I'm expecting, or coming from someone I know.

in The US we have what is called Actual Notice, meaning you have not been legally considered notified of something unless you've been physically delivered the notice by a licensed process server, or you sign for it in the mail, or it's published in a local paper in your community for four consecutive weeks.

And as one poster pointed out, you will get to vote Trump out of office in 2020! lol.

Major pro.

Let’s not bring politics into these discussions. Ok?

I haven't read through the 5 pages of responses, but for me a giant pro is never having the threat of having your green card revoked for some real or imagined infraction.

Citizenship can be revoked but it's a far lengthier process (as far as I'm aware) and a lot harder to do (again, as far as I'm aware - happy to be told if I've got it wrong)

My husband missed one tiny postcard so they sent another tiny postcard saying we'd be fined something like $1000 if he didn't show up on the date listed, California rules must be different

Because unlike you we've been negatively affected by jury duty on 4 occasions in four years like I mentioned. And I honestly couldn't think of a good reason to become a citizen. The threat of ever having trouble reentering the country now that we've discussed it is obviously a pro I hadn't thought about

The right to vote against Trump is nice in theory but living in California we do a good job voting liberal as it is, maybe I should move to a swing state where my vote might have more of an impact lol.

Florida!

Nice weather, way cheaper than California, Lower Taxes, Disney World.. The list goes on!

Can't go wrong. ^_^

Except for alligators and hurricanes and humidity :)

Alligators aren't nearly as bad as people make out haha. Florida actually has really good nuisance programs to relocate them if one does stray too close. Also hurricanes give warnings, earthquakes do not! You got me on humidity, it can be tough at times but whenever I visit California i feel so dry and constantly need to carry a lip balm. Where's the fun in that?
