That's the type of arrogance that brought other empires down on their knees, gotta love history.

FYI, it does matter because America depends on other countries, as much as other countries depend on America.

A good example is his recent move to protectionism

He has been saying that since Day 1.

It doesn't matter whether he said it from day 1or not. It was a horrible plan then, it still is a horrible plan now.

You can say it's a horrible plan or not. But right now at least 500 people are getting their jobs back that did not have them back yesterday. So what if he signed the order yesterday this once of the central parts of his campaign for President. It is awesome to have a President that will actually live up to his promises and protect the American people instead of selling us out to the rest of the world.

So you think it's ok if 500 people get their jobs back, and thousands loose theirs? And what about the higher prices consumers are going to pay?

The answer from the rest of the world is going to be plain and simple, hitting back with tarrifs...What do you think is going to happen to employees who work for a company that exports products to foreign countries? When they have to cut down on costs, what goes first you think?

What the hell do you think already happens around the world? I will tell you what happens we have to pay tariffs whenever we do trade with other countries, such as China. They put a tariff on our goods being imported into China and thus make it unaffordable to buy our goods. Who is losing their jobs, Europeans? I don't care about Europeans losing their job because no other country has cared about American jobs being lost the last 30-40 years. Newsflash: We haven't been buying steel from Europe because as about much as the Steel being made in the USA, we buy it from China duh.

I am not in favor of Trump's tariffs at all.  Just pointing out the irony of the importance of a few jobs depending on the political narrative.

The issue I had was that WE(USA) were the ones in the past always looking to go to the negotiating table with NK and they were the ones rebuffing us. So now the shoe is on the other foot after Pres. Trump said to stop doing that. The NK's were the one that came to US looking to talk and wanting to make some sort of concessions. It looks like we are Leaders instead of the puppies now.

#MAGA

NK has not, nor will they ever make a concession. Saying they want to meet, is not a concession. It is pretty obvious why they want to meet a POTUS. Do you remember the Clinton era, where they told us they were totally going to stop doing the naughty things they have always done? It was framed as a concession to the American public, when instead it did virtually nothing.

It is funny, that people tend to think the whole Reagan 'trickle-down' economics thing only works one way - positively. There is really no economist, certainly conservative or libertarian that thinks tariffs and trade wars are a good thing. Most of the American public stopped learning classic economics in school ages ago. Some steel workers think that this is a good thing, and the rest feel it's a load of nonsense. Short term gains, and small ones at that, will be met with severe long-term losses. From a libertarian perspective, to me, this is a pretty terrible idea. But perhaps people need to start really suffering to understand actions have consequences. Protectionism fails and will always fail. Compared to other countries, the amount of steel China sends us is tiny. You will not win anything with the Chinese by protectionism. They will continue laughing at us. But I do not expect much from a POTUS that is not interested in the whims of anyone but himself.

Wrong, the USA does import steel from Europe. No time to look the link up now, but they do. They aren't warning with counter tarrifs for no reason.

And you should care, you know why? The world economy is all connected, whether you like it or not.

When the financial crisis started in America in 2008, Europe was affected by it too. Thousands and thousands of people lost their jobs, and had to sell their houses who weren't worth anything.

BTW if you want to try to school someone since your going to school supposedly it's Lose not Loose.

I didn't say we don't import steel I said we do not do it in large quantities. The majority of the steel we get is from China not the EU.

I do care about the world economy and I never said that I didn't. All I said is that this is good for American high paying jobs that got sent overseas to China or somewhere else because it was cheaper to make it in China than the USA. So those people got forced out of a job and sent to work a low wage places like Walmart. I think overall this is good for us right now but I will wait and see how this plays out in the world. Because China right now has had a huge glut of steel just sitting there for some time now, and they are starting to feel the effects of issues playing out on their GDP.

What are you talking about? Who am I schooling? Hell, no I'm not  a teacher.  I'm not pretending  my English ( which is the third language I speak) is perfect. And when I'm doing many things at the same time while replying  I make mistakes. But luckly you did understood what I was saying ;-)

So back to topic:

You actually said you don't care about Europeans loosing their jobs. And you can feel like that, I don't get offended by it, I just think you underestimate how problems in one economy are going to affect another economy. We have seen different examples in history, protectionism is a short term solution, and eventually it's an all losers game.

What China has been doing is dumping, and yes that's something that is considered illegal in the trade world , and needs to end. But this tarrifs ( if the EU isn't excluded ) are gonna cause more damage, people will loose their jobs as a result.
