Steps to immigration

Hello everyone I'm new to this forum. Does anyone have any information on the steps I will need to take for my 17 yr old son and I to immigrate to the US from Trinidad?. Like what stuff do I need to get in order to immigrate and the process it takes etc.?

Some clarification is needed to give you the best advice on what steps are needed:

 

Are you married to a US citizen or US permanent resident?

Are you engaged to a US citizen?

Do you have any relatives that are US citizens or US permanent residents?

Hi thanks for your response. I have a nephew living in the US, I believe as a resident, but I had no intention of asking him to apply for us and that's it. We don't have any other ties in anyway with the US.

The problem is that you can't just pack your bag and show up at another country's border and say you are immigrating now (unless you are a refugee, some countries grant asylum then). You have to have grounds to do so. Unless you have close family ties to the U.S. (U.S. spouse or U.S. child over 21) you won't be able to immigrate to the U.S., I'm sorry.

Nephews cant' petition aunts anyway.  No other ties to the US in any way means no path to US immigration.

Look at a work visa maybe...if you qualify? Certainly not easy, but possible. You would need a US company to sponsor it, though.

Or if you have a lot of money willing to put into the US, look at an investor visa.

Edit: Or you may be able to put your name in for the diversity lottery.
