Fiance had her interview at the Embassy on 3/8/2018. She said it was only basic questions. The case was moved to Admin Processing with no reason given. The passports were returned to her. My lawyer seems to think it is a background check issue on the fiance. Was told to wait and if we don't here anything in 60 days the attorney will check. Try telling that to the fiance who just spent 4 days in Bogota jumping through all the hoops to get no answer. Anyone got any insight on what to expect?

Did they say approved or any paperwork given to your fiance?

AP is standard for everyone. Some AP's last 2-3 days, some 2-3 weeks, some 2-3 months, and even in some cases 1+ years. It can be for further background checks, security checks, ect..

All cases go through administrative processing.  Some cases and countries require a longer period for this.  Follow your attorney's advice......Good luck....

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Nothing says approved. I'm worried because they didn't keep the passports. The officer checked the box that the application has been withheld until an internal AP is completed. They will contact whoever as soon as the process has been completed and inform whoever of the next step.

I wouldn't worry at this point.....Hopefully, this will be a short AP.

This whole process is killing me. They ask for wedding plans. How do you plan a wedding with this arbitrary timeline they give you? I had never heard of this no reason AP. I had heard of people getting AP for additional evidence.

The embassy didn’t keep her passport. Everyone goes through AP yes but with them keeping the passports. If the passport was returned to her something is up. If your attorney said it’s a background check issue, does she have any criminal records that would be cause for concern? Or is there anything in your case that would be cause for concern? That would be your first clue. It’s never good when they give you the passport back.

We had an AP that lasted three months, however the passport was kept during that time.  If you have an attorney working with you, I would put your trust in her.  They seem to have special connections with USCIS and embassies and know when to push, and when to wait.  Yes, its tough to plan wedding plans, but that just adds to the frustration if you are trying to do that now.  Put the wedding plans on hold, and know that this will all work out.

If anyone told you that this is an easy process, they are liars.......Bringing your fiance or spouse to the US requires a great deal of knowledge, patience, planning, and money...........patience is the toughest for most people............AP for no reason given is very common.....

It happens at random. No one knows why. They ask a general question about wedding plans. They don’t actually want to know your specific plans. They just want to know if you’re planning on say for sample having just a courthouse wedding or if you’re having some other type of celebration and if family is coming and whatnot.

So they called Carolina from the Embassy today and asked her some very simple questions, what is my cell number, what do I do for work, her address at work and home, etc. She asked the lady what was missing from our application and the response was they were just finishing the process. Hopefully this is a good thing.
