Hi everyone,

Has anyone here used a stand by ticket going to US with k1 visa or any idea?

My US petitioner works for an airline and I'm an approved guest for his airline. So upon leaving we plan to use this previlige. We have a letter from his airline stating that I'm on his previlige.

I have a relative who often flies internationally via standby on United and their Star Alliance partners since her husband is a United employee. Seems pretty straight forward for her outside major holidays. What exactly is your concern? Don't think you'll have any problems...

Standby means - if they don't have an empty seat from paying customers you get to fly, no open seats no fly.

What's a "buddy pass?"
The only instance where "flying standby" in the original sense -- just turning up at the airport and hopping on a flight -- still works is if you know someone who works for (or is retired from) an airline. Airline employees are issued a handful of buddy passes per year, which they can distribute to friends and family. They enable the pass holder to fly standby for only the cost of the ticket's taxes and fees. But, as you'd expect, you'll have to wait at the airport until a flight has an open seat. The issuance of buddy passes varies dramatically from airline to airline, with specifics being kept under wraps as proprietary information. Still, if you're looking to travel standby and save a bundle, your best bet is to befriend someone that works for an airline.

How do either option work?
First things first: Know the rules. Some airlines will  let you phone in or register online to get on the standby list, but these options may only be available for confirmed same-day changes. Others may require you to show up at the airport and speak with an agent, or at least use the kiosks at the airport. Each airline has a designated window in which you're allowed to make that change, too, whether it's a few hours from your scheduled departure or after midnight the day of or 24 hours prior to your ticketed flight.

immigration does not care whatsoever how you arrive somewhere. They just care about you having the right document (ie a visa and passport) to enter the country. Best of luck with your move!

Immigration won't care.  All they are interested in is seeing your passport with visa and your DO NOT OPEN envelope (do keep this in your carry-on)

Do you have CFO completed?

I use the Buddy Pass from United quite often.  I believe for International flights you have to have a US Passport.  I could be wrong but I thought I did read that.  You won't get a seat until the last second but I have never not been able to fly when I use the pass.

They always ask for my passport number whenever I sign up for a flight and it was number only without asking about issuing country.

Wouldn't make sense to require a U.S. passport, United has employees from many countries

I can't argue with that.  Maybe it depends on where the employee is located.  I just know that the 7 or 8 times I've used the buddy pass there was only a spot for the passport number without a way to change the country of issue.  I am meeting that United employee for drinks tonight.  I will ask him.

Curious on that one.  Hope the OP doesn't have an issue.

Keep me posted.. Thanks
