We are both Muslim, but I reverted in the USA years ago, but I don't have any documentation of it, which I've heard is needed.  Didn't think to document anything here because it was just a personal choice.  So in legal terms in an Islamic country I don't know what that makes me.

Yeah I know, I actually had a friend of mine msg me today wondering if she knew of any other jobs in different countries in the GCC. I would much rather go for the UAE over Bahrain trust me. But I am a Fed employee and Bahrain has a lot of jobs compared to the UAE.

 

Also I can not stand flying Gulf Air at all. I much rather fly Emirates or Qatar Airways but also I can't do that with Qatar to Bahrain anymore.

OP - do you intend to get married in a mosque / islamic ceremony? if so, you might need proof of your conversion. perhaps your local imam can provide it for you? if you are planning on getting married in a civil ceremony however, then that is really not required (but don't quote me on this).

About the same you pretty much have to be a resident to get married in any GCC country.

I know, the flight routing issues there at the moment is one huge mess. but emirates still fly to bahrain, no?

It's something we would like to do, but not totally necessary.  As you mentioned, I was also thinking proof would be needed.  I bet I could get someone locally to draw something up for me here.  I also kind of wondered even for the civil ceremony if it would be required, since I believe you're required to list your religion on it?  I wondered if that would trip us up at all.  Thank you

if the ceremony is a religious one and officiated by a priest or imam for example then yes, it will be needed, doesn't matter if its done in a church/mosque/hotel etc. but i know you can get married inside your embassy or consulate (whatever your nationality might be) and the ceremony is officiated by the consul or ambassador and in this case i doubt you will need to prove religion.

OP - ok so i asked a friend. she is a converted muslim and she and her now-husband got married at the Dubai courts in a civil ceremony, officiated by a judge. she needed to present proof that they were muslims to the judge (something called a clan book or muslim certificate). so yeah, i guess you need proof of being a muslim in order to marry another muslim in a Dubai court.

 

also you say you are a converted muslim but you did it on your own, i think you will need to do much more in order for your conversion to be official and then be able to get your muslim certificate. my friends says, in her case, she had to enroll in islamic studies and upon graduation do something called "shahada" (or proclamation of faith) and then afterwards she was given her muslim certification.

 

anyway, whatever you end up doing and if you do end up in the uae, best of luck! it may take some time, but i am sure you will love it there!

I've heard a lot of great things about UAE, so I definitely hope it works out and I can spend some time there!
