Hi!  When is your interview?  We are trying to get the police certificate from here (USA) before we make our appt. in Ciudad Juarez.

IM sorry I just realized how that was put. I don’t have our interview yet we just sent in our 601a last month. I’m trying to have everything ready for nvc stage and I’m not sure about that part. I’m hoping to be getting our interview date beginning of next year .

Well you should get it before you go to Juarez or else it will delay your stay in mexico.

My attorney advise me to get it, but on the paperwork says you must be at least 16 yrs old before coming to the US so I didn't get it. Also I consulted a couple other attorneys about the subject and the told me I didn't need it because I migrated when I was 11 yrs.

Ok thank u my husband was 19 when he came so I guess we should start working on getting that. So next question is do u know how we get it?

I realize people are anxious and stressed about the I601a waiver and dreading the long 4-6 month waiting period now, my wife and I know...we've been through it.

Let me say that everyone here should use this time to their advantage by preparing their packages for the NVC checklist AFTER you have received your approvals.

Granted, many items on the NVC checklist are pretty simple and you should have in your possession already, like a copies of the birth certificates, copy of the marriage certificate, copies of both your VALID passports.  Giving the NVC copies of your last three years of tax returns will go far as well.

The most tricky is the police certificate.  The police certificate needs to come from the home state of where the applicant is from.  Example, my wife is from Zacatecas.  Obviously we both live in the United States and going back to Zacatecas would be troublesome just for this one piece of documentation.  Through the local Mexican Consulate, we were able to give Power of Attorney to her brother that lives in Zacatecas so he could acquire the paperwork and UPS the them back here to the United States.  I would recommend your relative that lives in your applicant's home state acquire TWO copies of the police certificate as you will need to send one to the NVC, and you will need to bring one to the US Consulate interview.  I made the mistake of only getting one and sending to the NVC.  While I did make a copy of the original, my lawyer suggested we get another to bring to the US Consulate.  We were not going to take any chances and took his advice.  And as fate would have it, the interviewing officer at the Consulate asked for it.

Waiting around for USCIS approvals is a long dismal process.  Remember, this is not a sprint, it is a marathon.  With every day you are waiting for the I601a approval, you can be proactive by working on your case by doing research, preparing documents, making copies etc etc.  The more prepared and knowledge equipped you are, the less your case will be delayed by overlooked or forgotten paperwork and you will have less stress for your Consulate interview.

Best wishes, it will be worth it in the end.

Although my husband is not from Mexico, this post was super informative. Thank you so much.

Hi guys, I've been checking this thread religiously for the past 7 months and today I finally got good news and I knew I had to make an account to share with you.

I-601A Received Date: 12/8/17

I-601A Biometrics Done: 1/13/18

I-601A APPROVAL: 7/25/18

I actually found out by email - I set up an account at the new USCIS website: https://myaccount.uscis.dhs.gov/ months ago but the case status always stayed the same whenever I would check. Friday morning (7/26) I received a notification email that action had been taken on my case. When I logged in, I saw the approval and freaked out. Today we received the I-797 approval notice in the mail (so fast!).

I had been worried about not seeing any updates on my case, especially after so many people had been either approved or moved to the Nebraska Processing Center (ours stayed at the NBC in Missouri), so we submitted a Case Inquiry the first week of July. I don't know if that had any effect on my case.

I just want to say THANK YOU to all the posters here who answer questions and provide updates - you guys kept me sane throughout this whole ordeal. I wish all of you still waiting so much luck and I want you to know that I'm pulling for you guys to get your approvals quickly. I know the waiting is so painful and scary but please hang in there!!!!

PS FYI - This website (https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/landing.do) is still out of date and has my status saying that the fingerprint fee was received. So maybe don't take that website into account as much.

Congrats, and please don't be a stranger afterwards! Still would love to hear the journey passing! Good Luck!

Awesome Congrats!

We have a similiar time line!  We got approved on June 12th now just waiting on our appointment! Did you work with a lawyer ? Have they given you a timeline of when you’ll receive your appointment? Hopefully it’s soon! Best of luck and keep us updated and thanks for the dependable website I was constantly checking the other one and was worried nut just signed up for the new one . Don’t want to miss anything thanks !

Hi - Yes we worked with a lawyer. We still have to do the DS-260 and the affidavit of support because we decided to wait until we had the approval. I think we'll hopefully get all that submitted within the next couple of weeks  but getting that police certificate has been a hassle and taken longer than we thought.

Thank you! (and also to everyone else who has been really nice with well-wishes!). I'll try to give as much information as I can as we continue forward with the process.

With a good immigration attorney and you and your spouse willing to put attention to the matter, your case should start moving into high gear once you send the NVC all your documentation.  The most grueling part of the process is waiting for responses from the USCIS (I-130 and the I-601a).  The USCIS backlog delays our cases for months at a time while we wait for their answer.  You'll find that working with the NVC is a lot less stressful.  In our experience, the NVC always responded promptly to our documentation and always available on weekdays to call and speak with an agent.  The VisaJourney community is here for you as well.   You're not out of the woods yet, still much more needs to be done.  But it does get easier from here, trust me.

Question filling out this waiver and being approved would that not basically guarantee your re entry to US ? My husband did his interview 7-31-18 he got the visa approved green letter then they told him to wait 5-10 days to receive the visa meanwhile go to the website https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-mx/iv to check status and on Aug 3rd it stated the word Issued (your visa has been printed and will be mailed and available for pickup at the DHL office you selected ) Went back in to check to see if there was a tracking number and on 8-6 the word Refused (please see the letter you received at your interview for more info) which make no sense since his letter says your visa has been approved. WTH is going on ? I called the NSV and they stated they did not see that it was refused they showed it was still processing . Is this a error in the system or what any ideas???

Once we acquired the power of attorney and some paperwork from the Mexican Consulate, we used UPS to two day ship to Zacatecas.  Once he received the paperwork needed, he went to the police station and paid a fee and had it in hand that day.  The Mexican Consulate here told us it would be 80 pesos, but you know how things go in Mexico...they said down there it cost 200 pesos....whatever.  What are you gonna do?  Pay their fee, or don't get the paper at all.  Anyways, he then went to a local DHL courier and had it mailed back to us in three days.  So the process took a week.  It all really depends on how motivated your relative you give power of attorney to.

The USCIS never updated the i601a case status.  Everytime I checked, it always said that the fees were paid.  That's it.  So when one Saturday morning while I was at work, my wife called and said there was mail from the USCIS, i knew what it was.

Whatever issue you are having with your mail here, I'd hope you get it resolved.  I never tried calling the USCIS, as it seemed a waste of time.  If more than six months go by without mail from them, I'd start calling them for an update.  An alternative would be to call the NVC.  I've called their New Hampshire office a couple of times and always got through to speak to a rep, and they are open till midnight EST on weekdays.  Since the USCIS would have to inform the NVC of their decision, the NVC could have notification before the USCIS even mails the paper notification to your home.

I have a question my husband is from minatitlan, veracruz does his family has to go straight to the PGR or just any police station from the city.

Thanks for your time.
