If you are reading this please take pity on me, I am have no idea what I'm doing, and I'm in desperate need of help.

A little info about my situation:

I recently married my Egyptian husband, who is still in Egypt. I am back home in the U.S.

Will someone please tell me plainly and simply how do I get my husband from Egypt to the U.S.?

I know I need to apply for a spouse visa, and I thought that was all I needed to do, but looking over this site and others, and after watching youtube horror stories my mind has turned to mush.  I just need an idiot's guide to bringing your foreign husband to America, please.

For example:

Step 1. Fill out this form

etc....

Also, can someone tell me how long I should expect to wait for him to receive the visa? 9 months? 2 years? 35 years? :crying:

Thanks so much in advance,

Natalie ♥

You need to do a lot of research on the process. Follow this guide http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide1

Go on USCIS and get all the guides and forms too, read, read, and read more about it, then come back here with more specific questions.

If you fill out your profile and your timeline it will connect you with others who have gone through Egypt. the process is the same but sometimes there are particulars about each country that make it slightly different (scheduling interviews, etc).

After you fill out your application and send it in, with all your fees and evidence of a bonafide marriage, it will take approx. 6-9 months to be approved, depending on which processing center it's randomly assigned to. After that you go through the NVC stage, where you pay more fees, submit more paperwork, etc. After that an interview is scheduled. At the NVC (National Visa Center) stage, if you are completely ready to do everything, it may take 4 months, but you have the ability to take a little bit longer at that stage if you need to. So all in all, about 12-15 months if you are pro-active and ready for each step.

Egypt tends to be a more difficult country to get a visa through so make sure you've had plenty of time together with a lot of proof of a relationship. Reaching out to others who have gone through the process from Egypt may help (you will see their names/cases when you fill out your profile and it connects you with the Egypt portal).

You can email with specific questions, but I'm not through Egypt.

This is your first step: https://www.uscis.gov/i-130

Read every word in each of the forms and instructions. Ask questions if you don't understand something. I also recommend doing a search on this forum for i130 RFE just to see what others missed and got an RFE for so that you are as well-prepared as possible.

There is no easy way out of this. The only way to get your husband to join you in the US is to study, study and study. Good luck!

An overview but PLEASE RESEARCH EVERY STEP TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE EVERYTHING:

This is just a quick overview so you have an idea of where to start:

First:

You need to fill out the form i130 & 130A and i also filled out form G325 for me and my wife. You need to also include a check for the $525? filing fee. And send it to the address.. check here https://www.uscis.gov/i-130-addresses

Second:

You will receive NOA1 ( Notice of Action 1) where says that your case has been accepted and you will receive a receipt number. With that receipt number, you can check the status of your case on the USCIS website. Now you have to wait for NOA2 (Notice of Action 2) which is approval of your petition. It took 10 months for my petition to be approved, I'm also a US Citizen. Make sure you include everything!! when you send the i130 packet because I forgot to send passport-style photos of myself (Petitioner) and that cost me a month of delay (They will send you a request for evidence aka RFE if you are mission something).

Third:

Once petition is approved your case will be sent to National Visa Center (NVC) Here you will have to wait for a case number to be assigned. Once its assigned you have to pay the AOS Fee which is $120 and another fee known as IV fee which is $325. Then you will have to gather evidece that shows that you can support your spouse financially and your spouse will have to send a couple of civil documents. For NVC process read this website. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/after-petition-approved/begin-nat-visa-center.html

Fourth:

Once the fees are paid you will have to send the documents gathered on step 3 and send them to NVC if nothing is missing your case will be accepted and forwarded to the embassy in your spouses country. Then you will have an interview and either you will be approved or denied a visa.

AGAIN PLEASE RESEARCH RESEARCH! Read through the guides here and the links I've included. I'm doing this process my self and am currently on step 4.  I've read countless hours! to make sure i did not forget anything.

What goes in the filing package will depend on your personal circumstances and biographical history, but no G325a forms are needed anymore.  What somebody else did, is based on their circumstances.  What is needed for you, can only be determined by you or somebody who knows all the things about the two of you, they need to know.  Study and apply the I-130 instructions to your personal circumstances.

OOOH I have another question!!!

Will they accept a translated religious marriage certificate? Both of us are Muslim and were married via a sheikh in a Nikah Ceremony, per our religious custom. Is this acceptable?

Find that information here.  https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country/Egypt.html
