No, you need to call NVC with regularity in order for them to give you a case number.

Is not just after receiving your NOA2, the status of your case at USCIS must had changed to: "Sent to DOS". After 1 week or 2 they received, you should be able to get it.

However, after February 2018, NVC turned really slow, I've been waiting since 2/7 for a case number and nothing yet.

Ah okay, so if the status is shown as below

"On February 21, 2018, we sent your case, Receipt Number LIN________________, to the Department of State for visa processing. You can find general information on Consular Processing by visiting our website at www.uscis.gov . The website will provide information on what to do next, who to contact, and how to inform us of any changes in your situation or address."

that means i can call NVC now to get an update on the NVC's own case number? What number is it and any documents i need to prepare (if they ask me over the phone)?

Yes, that means that it was sent to DOS.

I think you only need basic information about petitioner and beneficiary, others members could help you with that and the phone number, since in my case my husband is been the one calling, and not me.

:P

It really is hit or miss...My case was sent on 1/22/2018 and NVC said they received Feb. 7 and I got the " numbers" yesterday @ 9 a.m.

Now as another poster stated you must wait sometime to get the email that will say that you are good to login to CEAC.
